With more than 50 years of operation and a strong reputation for quality and delivery, they are seeking a Head of Transport to critically evaluate and transform how their logistics function operates — not just manage it. Experience across both own-fleet and third-party logistics environments will be highly regarded. About the Role You will take full accountability for the transport function and be empowered to reshape it. Key responsibilities include: Analysing current transport costs, routes, and utilisation to identify inefficiencies and opportunities Evaluating and recommending the optimal distribution model — own fleet, 3PL, or hybrid — and driving implementation Developing and managing relationships with freight carriers suited to non-standard, bespoke steel freight Implementing route and backhaul optimisation strategies to eliminate waste and improve cost per kilometre Overseeing day-to-day transport coordination, trip planning, and despatch Ensuring full compliance with NHVR, mass management, and fatigue regulations Leading, developing, and performance managing a team of truck drivers About You Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior transport, logistics, or distribution management role Proven track record transforming or significantly improving a transport operation — not just running one Background in manufacturing, bulk freight, or project logistics; experience with non-standard or oversized loads an advantage Commercially minded: able to build a business case, model costs, and present a clear path forward Experience managing third-party logistics providers alongside an internal fleet Sound knowledge of NHVR, mass management, and fatigue compliance Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams of 10 or more Analytical, data-driven, and decisive What's on Offer A genuine transformation brief with the autonomy to change how the business operates Stable, profitable, family-owned business with a strong national reputation built over 50 years Supportive leadership team that values commercial thinking and fresh ideas Prospect location with onsite parking Competitive remuneration package commensurate with experience If you're a commercially-minded transport professional ready to make a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
