About the Role Join Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council as the Manager Town Services and lead the delivery of high-quality parks, gardens, and open space maintenance across the community. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring Council’s public spaces are safe, well-maintained, and presented to a high standard, while supporting and developing a local workforce. You will work closely with the Executive Manager Roads, Infrastructure and Essential Services to deliver efficient, safe, and cost-effective horticultural and town maintenance services. Please note that accommodation is not provided with this position. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate the maintenance of Council parks, gardens, and open spaces. Apply horticultural knowledge to deliver routine and reactive maintenance activities such as planting, pruning, watering, pest control, and landscaping. Establish and maintain sustainable gardens and community spaces. Supervise and support staff, including rostering, performance management, and development. Ensure safe operation, maintenance, and reporting of Council vehicles and plant. Manage work programs, priorities, and reporting requirements. Engage with community members and stakeholders to support local initiatives and outcomes. Maintain a high standard of workplace health and safety and compliance with Council policies. Selection Criteria Demonstrated experience in horticulture, parks, or open space maintenance. Proven ability to lead and coordinate a team in a practical, hands-on environment. Strong planning, organisation, and time management skills. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, community members, and stakeholders. Experience working in remote communities and/or with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Mandatory Requirements Current Queensland Driver Licence (MR desirable). Police Clearance. First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
