Develop, maintain, and enforce compliance with operating procedure for Geology tasks. Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to the site Geology team. Participate in the leadership of the site operations and advice the management team as required. Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for the Geology team. Maintain high standards in safety, health, hygiene and environmental practices, including proactive leadership. This is a site-based role. The work schedule consists of 8 days on followed by 6 days off. Geology Strategy & Planning: Define and implement the Mining Geology operating strategy aligned with life-of-mine and short-term plans. Develop and oversee resource infill drilling programs to improve resource confidence and orebody knowledge. Ensure effective integration of geology inputs into mine planning and scheduling processes. Grade Control & Ore Management: Lead the design and execution of grade control programs to optimise ore recovery and minimise dilution. Oversee ore delineation, dig line definition, and real-time geological support to mining operations. Manage stockpile control systems, ensuring accurate tracking, classification, and utilisation of ore and waste. Reconciliation & Reporting: Establish and maintain robust reconciliation processes (model vs. grade control vs. production). Analyse variances and drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve accuracy and performance. Provide timely and accurate geological reporting, forecasts, and advice to the management team. Governance, Systems & Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain geology procedures, standards, and systems. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, company standards, and reporting obligations (e.g. JORC where applicable). Maintain data integrity across geological systems, databases, and models. Leadership & Capability Development: Lead, coach, and mentor the site geology team to build capability and high performance. Set clear expectations and manage performance in line with business objectives. Support workforce planning, recruitment, and succession planning for the geology function. Safety, Health & Environment: Demonstrate visible safety leadership and ensure all geology activities are conducted in accordance with site safety systems. Promote a proactive safety culture, including hazard identification and risk management. Ensure environmental compliance in all geology-related activities (e.g. drilling, sampling, disturbance). Budget & Cost Management: Develop and manage operating and capital budgets for the geology function. Monitor costs and drive efficiencies while maintaining quality and performance standards. Stakeholder & Operational Interface: Work closely with Mining, Processing, and Technical Services teams to support operational outcomes. Provide expert geological advice to site leadership to inform decision-making. Interface effectively with contractors (e.g. drilling, mining alliance) while maintaining clear accountability boundaries. Qualifications: Tertiary qualification in Geology, Applied Geology or Earth Sciences (or equivalent). Eligibility for membership with a recognised professional body (e.g. AusIMM). Current C Class Driver’s Licence. Experience Significant experience (typically 8–15 years) in open pit mining geology, preferably within base metals or similar operations. Demonstrated experience in grade control, resource definition drilling, and reconciliation processes. Experience managing geological teams in an operational environment, including contractors. Proven capability in budget management and cost control. Experience working within owner’s team / contractor (EPC or Alliance) models (highly desirable given your setup). Technical Skills: Strong understanding of resource modelling, orebody interpretation, and grade estimation. Experience with geological and mine planning software (e.g. Surpac, Micromine, Leapfrog or similar). Knowledge of reconciliation methodologies and reporting standards (e.g. JORC where applicable). Strong data management and analytical capability. Leadership & Behavioural Capability: Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, and building high-performing teams. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across Mining, Processing, and Technical Services. Ability to operate effectively in a complex, multi-contractor environment while maintaining clear accountabilities. Strong decision-making and problem-solving capability under operational pressure. Safety & Compliance: Sound knowledge of Queensland mining legislation, particularly the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld). Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and risk management. Understanding of statutory roles and responsibilities on a mine site (desirable). Desirable: Chartered Professional (CP) status with AusIMM. Experience in project phase (construction → operations transition). Exposure to continuous improvement and operational readiness programs.
