About the role: The Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of Council's fortnightly payroll, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, awards, enterprise agreements and Council policies. This role plays a critical part in delivering an efficient payroll service to Council employees, maintaining payroll records, providing payroll-related advice and supporting a range of payroll, superannuation and workers compensation administration functions. The successful applicant may be required to work additional ordinary hours, up to a maximum of 38 hours per week, during the initial training period and where operational requirements necessitate, subject to consultation with their People Manager and in accordance with the Enterprise Agreement. Some of the duties and responsibilities include: Accurately prepare and process Council's payroll Maintain payroll records, leave accruals and employee information with a high level of confidentiality Process payroll deductions, allowances, taxation and superannuation payments Reconcile payroll data and prepare payroll reports as required Provide advice and support to employees regarding payroll, leave, allowances and taxation Process employee commencements, terminations and payroll adjustments Complete payroll-related statutory reporting, including Single Touch Payroll requirements Assist with workers compensation administration and reporting requirements Ensure compliance with relevant awards, legislation, enterprise agreements and Council policies About you: We are looking for an individual who has the following: Demonstrated experience in payroll processing and administration Ability to interpret and apply industrial instruments, awards and employment conditions Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information Understanding of basic accounting principles A current Non-Prohibited South Australian Working with Children Check, or ability to obtain prior to commencement If this sounds like your perfect role, we want to hear from you!
