Diverse portfolio & key leadership opportunity Work with the CEO & Council to drive future planning needs $140,000 to $150,000 p.a. plus Super Town of Walkerville is home to 8,000 residents encompassing the suburbs of Gilberton, Medindie, Vale Park and Walkerville immediately northeast of the city. Council offices are in Gilberton and easily assessable. The Council has approximately 40 staff providing a range of services to the community that exhibits a positive village feel supporting heritage, open space and a strong local economy. Council has positive engagement with the community with surveys indicating an overall sound level of community satisfaction with Council services. The Manager Planning and Regulatory Services, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, provides management and leadership in all aspects of Development Assessment, Compliance and Regulatory Services. This is a broad based, integral role in Council providing leadership, management, policy development and overall direction to the five-member Planning and Regulatory Team and external contractors. Key responsibilities include: Development Assessment and compliance including assessment of complex development applications, customer/stakeholder engagement and meeting legislative and service standards Management of Council’s Development Assessment Panel including preparing of reports and provision of advice In partnership with the CEO, management of strategic and policy matters related to planning Management of all matters relating to regulatory services including traffic management, animal management and by-laws Oversight of all matters relating to Environmental Health Services Management of direct reports and contribution to effective leadership in the Council. This is an excellent opportunity for a multi-skilled professional with broad experience in local government, or similar organisation, who exhibits highly developed written and verbal communication, influencing skills, customer/stakeholder engagement, problem solving and leadership. Recognised qualifications in an appropriate discipline such as urban planning, law or equivalent experience are essential.
