About the Business Hap Cafe is a vibrant Filipino-inspired cafe and events venue located in Carlton North, Melbourne. Operated by Hap Melbourne Pty Ltd, we are dedicated to delivering an authentic and memorable dining experience using fresh, high-quality ingredients rooted in Filipino and Asian culinary tradition. As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Full- Time Chef for our kitchen team and drive the culinary direction of Hap Cafe Melbourne. Salary: $77,000 – $85,000 gross per annum Superannuation (commensurate with experience) Key Duties and Responsibilities • Oversee all daily kitchen operations, ensuring efficient food preparation and timely delivery across service • Design and update menus in line with the restaurant’s goals, seasonal availability, and customer preferences • Lead, train and motivate kitchen staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment • Ensure all dishes consistently meet high standards for taste, presentation and quality • Manage kitchen set-up and pack-down efficiently at the start and close of each shift • Maintain a clean, organised and food-safe kitchen environment at all times • Manage inventory, minimise food waste and maintain food costs within budget • Enforce food safety and sanitation standards in accordance with local regulations and WHS requirements • Create and test new recipes ensuring alignment with the cafe concept and brand identity • Negotiate with vendors and manage ingredient procurement • Conduct regular staff performance reviews and implement continuous improvement strategies • Coordinate with front-of-house and management to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction Required Skills and Experience • Minimum 1 years’ experience as a qualified Chef in a busy commercial kitchen • Demonstrated experience in Filipino or Asian cuisine is highly regarded • Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent overseas qualification, subject to skills assessment) • Proven ability to lead and manage a kitchen team effectively • Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and WHS requirements applicable to commercial kitchen environments • Strong menu development and recipe creation skills • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to work effectively under pressure during peak service periods • Reliable, punctual and committed to delivering quality outcomes consistently • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage inventory, costs and supplier relationships Desirable (Not Essential) • Knowledge of allergen management and dietary requirements (e.g. gluten-free, vegetarian) • Familiarity with breakfast and café service operations • Experience with supplier negotiation and cost control How to Apply To apply, please submit your current CV/resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and why you are suited to this role through this platform.
