Primary objective As an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, provide culturally and clinically safe advice, care and support regarding service delivery of Dialysis Care in the Renal Satellite Services. Context statement This position is based at the Nightcliff Renal Unit and requires a proficient practitioner who is either experienced in dialysis care or willing to develop dialysis capability. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the position provides safe, effective and culturally responsive clinical care to clients with complex and multiple health conditions. The role requires flexibility, sound clinical judgement, and the ability to respond to changing client needs and complex situations, within the practitioner’s scope of practice and in accordance with documented health care plans. The position also contributes to enhanced cultural safety, continuity of care, health promotion and improved outcomes for clients receiving dialysis and related primary health care interventions. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provide a culturally responsive service in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, with input into mental health assessment and treatment plans for Aboriginal clients during the perinatal period. 2. Support and advise health staff on best practice in culturally appropriate service delivery. 3. Contribute to the development and delivery of education and training for primary and secondary health providers, including engaging community members to strengthen community involvement in health service delivery. 4. Provide cultural support to other health professionals to build cultural competence and responsiveness and assist them to navigate Aboriginal communities and customs. 5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces. Selection criteria Essential 1. Current registration with AHPRA as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner. 2. Minimum AQF level 4 as per NTPS Aboriginal Health Practitioner 2025-2029 Enterprise Agreement or be able to demonstrate sufficient sustained experience and practice to satisfy the CEO they should be appointed to that level. 3. Previous experience employed as a registered Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner within health care environment with experience and knowledge of health information systems used; in particular patient care systems; and data collection. 4. Established local cultural knowledge, respect and safety across local communities and ensuring and maintaining appropriate confidentiality. 5. Ability to self-manage within a multi-disciplinary health team and provide mental health care services against national health care standards in a culturally safe and respectful manner. 6. Experience in the use of the community and health information systems used in the clinic setting including tele-health and patient care systems. 7. Demonstrated experience in use of effective communication skills; including the ability to manage conflict; and complex and sensitive issues.
