Job description Applications are invited for the ongoing full-time role of Head of Research and Policy at the Green Institute, the official research Institute for the Australian Greens. This role is based in Brisbane Qld. The Head of Research and Policy will lead the development of policy and research at the Green Institute and manage a small team of policy and research volunteers. Depending on the successful candidate’s experience and capabilities, the Head of Research and Policy will also engage in public advocacy on behalf of the Green Institute in the media and online. Key Responsibilities include; Develop public policy, costings and analysis for announcement, working closely with the Institute Executive Director Produce public facing research and policy reports Work with Communications and Visual director to draft messaging and written communications for social media, graphics and traditional media Manage a small team of policy/research volunteers Act as a public representative for the Green Institute in media interviews Applicants should possess the following skills and experience: Demonstrated policy and research experience in previous roles and/or in a higher degree Ability to conduct analysis of economic and social research data Capacity to write skillfully & clearly in a way that communicates ideas, issues and context to a broad public audience Ability to work as part of a small team, under time constraints and tight deadlines, with a high level of independence. Be comfortable using Microsoft Excel & Google Sheets Alignment with progressive Greens values and a commitment to making positive change Other desirable qualities: Experience producing research and/or policy for public consumption Strong verbal communication skills; in particular the capacity to verbally communicate ideas, issues and context to a broad public audience Ability to conduct economic modelling and policy costings Familiarity with economic, energy and housing policy University level qualifications in economics, political economy and/or at least three years experience in an economic policy position A probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension by a maximum of two months. Employment Conditions Employment conditions outlined in the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS) . Depending on the level of skills and experience of the successful candidate, the position will be paid at between payment level SCHADS 5.1 - SCHADS 7.1. $104,303.16 - $123,261.79 per annum Employer superannuation contribution of 12% This is an ongoing contract and will commence on the 13th of July, but may be open to negotiation The Green Institute is an equal opportunity employer.
