Electrician Apprenticeship Job ID 6981 Type Full time Location St Lucia, QLD Positions 1 Apply Electrician Apprenticeship The Opportunity Partnered with our host the University of Queensland , we are looking for a motivated Electrical Apprentice to join the team while completing a UEE30820 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician . This position would suit a first year apprentice with a genuine interest in electrical work and a relevant pre-vocational background, such as Certificate II in Electrotechnology. You will be full-time and based at the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus , with work performed across UQ facilities and local travel between work sites as required. This apprenticeship offers the chance to support electrical maintenance, repairs and installations across a diverse campus environment. You will be mentored by qualified electricians while completing a blend of on-the-job training and formal study, building practical skills in electrical maintenance, installation, testing, fault finding and safe work practices. Your duties will include, but are not limited to: Assist qualified electricians with maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and infrastructure across UQ facilities Support installation of electrical wiring, lighting, switchboards, control systems and associated equipment Assist with testing, fault finding and troubleshooting of electrical systems under supervision Learn and apply safe electrical work practices and comply with all electrical safety regulations Support preventative maintenance programs for electrical plant and equipment and assist with documentation including maintenance records and service reports Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and orderly condition, participate in structured training, and complete other duties as requested by the Supervisor Benefits Full-time 4-year contract with annual and personal leave benefits Paid weekly for steady earnings Access to personalised 1:1 mentoring Opportunity to access Government support payments up to $2,500 during the apprenticeship About You The successful candidate will have a practical, hands-on approach and a genuine interest in building a career in the electrical trade. You will ideally have good communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the willingness to learn while working safely across campus sites. The role involves local travel between work areas and exposure to live electrical systems, with risks including electric shock, arc flash and working around energised equipment. You will use basic hand tools and cordless power tools as required. Noise exposure above workplace standards is unlikely, and PPE would be provided if required. In addition to these qualities, you will ideally: Have a current driver’s licence Have strong attention to detail, a problem-solving mindset, and a willingness to learn Be able to use basic hand tools and power tools safely Be able to follow instructions, work safely, and contribute as part of a team Be reliable, punctual and committed to completing the apprenticeship program Have a basic understanding of electrical systems and a genuine interest in the electrical trade Hold a Certificate II in Electrotechnology, or similar, which is desirable but not essential Be suitable for a junior apprenticeship, as adult apprentices will not be considered for this role Have the ability to pass a Medical, Drug and Alcohol Screen, and Police Check Diversity is important, and whilst we accept all applications for this opportunity, we strongly encourage and are looking to support women in the trades stream as part of this engagement.
