Position Summary The Telecommunications Technical Officer / Technologist is responsible for the design, planning, installation, configuration, testing, maintenance and support of telecommunications and network systems, equipment and services used by Aera and its clients. The role ensures that telecommunications infrastructure operates reliably, securely and in line with applicable standards, business requirements and service level commitments. Key Duties and Responsibilities The Telecommunications Technical Officer / Technologist is required to perform the following tasks: 1. Identify, analyse and develop technical solutions to problems associated with telecommunications equipment, systems, networks and services. 2. Design, draft, schedule and cost telecommunications equipment, lines, cables, facilities and associated network infrastructure. 3. Inspect, test, analyse faults in, repair, modify and maintain telecommunications equipment, lines, cables, facilities and networks. 4. Supervise and coordinate the work of telecommunications trades workers, technicians and contractors in the construction, installation, commissioning and maintenance of telecommunications equipment, lines, cables and facilities. 5. Liaise with clients, users, vendors and stakeholders on telecommunications requirements, technical specifications, project scope and service performance. 6. Assist in the development and implementation of telecommunications network plans, policies, standards and procedures. 7. Plan, configure, install, test and commission telecommunications and data network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, voice/VoIP systems and supporting cabling infrastructure. 8. Monitor the performance, capacity, availability and security of telecommunications networks, and undertake tuning, optimisation and corrective action as required. 9. Diagnose and resolve faults in telecommunications systems and networks, including escalation to vendors and carriers where required. 10. Maintain technical documentation, including network diagrams, configuration records, change records, test results and asset registers. 11. Ensure all telecommunications work is carried out in accordance with relevant Australian standards, regulatory requirements, workplace health and safety obligations and Aera's internal policies and procedures. 12. Provide technical advice, support and training to internal staff and clients on telecommunications systems, equipment and services. 13. Assist with telecommunications and network projects, including site surveys, installations, migrations, upgrades and decommissioning activities. Skills, Qualifications and Experience • A relevant qualification in Telecommunications Engineering, Network Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline (or equivalent skills, experience and vendor certifications). • Minimum 1 year of experience in a telecommunications, network engineering or network operations role. • Sound knowledge of telecommunications and data networking principles, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VoIP, SD-WAN, routing, switching and firewalls. • Experience installing, configuring, testing and maintaining telecommunications and networking equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Fortinet, Meraki, Aruba or similar. • Familiarity with structured cabling, fibre and copper transmission systems and associated testing tools. • Sound understanding of network security principles, including access control, segmentation, monitoring and incident response. • Strong fault diagnosis, analytical and problem-solving skills. • Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage with clients, vendors and internal stakeholders. • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to manage competing priorities. • A current Australian driver's licence (if site attendance is required). Hours of Work This is a full-time position comprising 38 ordinary hours per week, plus reasonable additional hours as required to meet the responsibilities of the role. The position may include participation in an on-call roster to support clients' telecommunications and network environments. Remuneration The annual base salary for this position is in between AUD $75,000 - $85,000, exclusive of superannuation. Superannuation will be paid in addition to the base salary in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992 (Cth).
