WestLink Workforce is partnering with a leading-edge manufacturing facility in Kewdale to recruit an experienced Leading Hand / First Class Fabricator . This role is specifically tailored for a high-level tradesperson who is at home in a modern, technology-driven workshop and possesses the leadership skills to manage a team of up to 10. This is a hybrid position that requires a unique blend of "old school" fabrication mastery and "new school" CNC/Laser proficiency. You will be responsible for ensuring the precision of automated machinery translates into high-quality finished products, all while providing strong frontline leadership to the workshop floor. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership: Supervise and coordinate a workshop team of up to 10; provide technical mentorship, manage production flow, and ensure the team meets strict delivery deadlines. CNC & Laser Integration: Oversee the fabrication process for parts processed via Laser and CNC machinery; ensure accuracy from the initial cut through to final assembly. Precision Fabrication & Welding: Execute high-level fabrication and welding (MIG/TIG) on complex assemblies, ensuring all work meets rigorous structural and aesthetic standards. Technical Interpretation: Review and interpret complex CAD drawings and digital schematics to plan efficient material nesting and production sequences. Quality Control: Enforce a "right first time" culture; perform detailed inspections on CNC-processed components and finished fabrications to ensure zero defects. Workflow Optimization: Identify bottlenecks in the production line and implement process improvements to maximize the output of both the machinery and the team. Safety Leadership: Maintain a gold-standard safety environment, ensuring all machine guarding and OH&S protocols are strictly followed by the team. Requirements and Skills Trade Qualification: Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or equivalent). Modern Workshop Experience: Proven background working in fabrication shops utilizing Laser Cutters, CNC Press Brakes, or CNC Folding machinery. Advanced Welding Skills: High proficiency in MIG and TIG welding across various materials (Steel, Stainless, and Aluminum). Leadership Experience: Demonstrated success in a Leading Hand or Supervisory role, with the ability to motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced environment. Digital Literacy: Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and CAD files; basic understanding of machine programming/software is highly regarded. Compliance: Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol screen.
