WHS Specialist Our client is a proudly family-owned Australian business with a strong reputation in metal recycling and processing. We operate in a fast-paced, high-risk environment with heavy machinery, vehicle movement and constant operational activity. We’re looking for a hands-on WHS Specialist who thrives on the ground — not behind a desk — and wants to make a real impact on safety culture. About the role This is a practical, site-based WHS role working closely with operations, supervisors and operators across our yard. You’ll be visible, proactive and embedded in the day-to-day running of the business. You’ll take ownership of safety systems while building strong relationships on site — driving a culture where safety is part of how we work, not just a compliance exercise. Key responsibilities Lead daily toolbox talks and safety briefings Conduct site inspections, audits and risk assessments across plant, traffic and processing areas Identify hazards and implement practical control measures in a high-risk environment (heavy machinery, mobile plant, trucks) Investigate incidents, near misses and injuries, and implement corrective actions Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, codes of practice and company procedures Maintain WHS documentation, reports, and safety systems Support and coach supervisors and operators on safe work practices Assist with training, inductions and competency management Monitor contractor safety and site access controls Drive continuous improvement of safety processes and culture About you Proven experience in WHS within industrial, manufacturing, recycling, construction or similar high-risk environments Strong understanding of traffic management, mobile plant and heavy equipment risks Comfortable being on the ground — visible, approachable and proactive Experience running toolbox talks and engaging frontline teams Solid knowledge of WHS legislation and compliance requirements Confident with incident investigations and reporting Strong communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or higher) preferred Why join us?
