About the role: We are seeking a motivated and capable Leading Hand to coordinate and lead the delivery of stormwater drainage construction, reconstruction and maintenance works across our rapidly growing region. This is a key leadership role within our Maintenance team, providing the opportunity to make a real impact on community infrastructure while enjoying the unbeatable South West lifestyle. What you’ll be doing: Lead and coordinate the Drainage team to deliver construction and maintenance works safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Manage drainage capital works projects and programmed maintenance activities within budget and timeframes. Interpret design plans, estimate materials, schedule works and manage multiple jobs simultaneously. Oversee contractors, traffic management and internal crews on active roadways and confined spaces. Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring and on-the-job training to team members. Assist with budgets, estimates, procurement and contract management. What you’ll bring to the role: You will align with the City’s Values and be able to demonstrate the below competencies: Extensive experience in civil infrastructure construction and maintenance, with strong expertise in stormwater drainage. Advanced plant operation experience (including backhoe loaders) and a thorough understanding of plant safety and pre-start checks. Proven leadership, job planning, budgeting and time management skills. Ability to read and interpret design and construction plans. Strong written and verbal communication skills and a customer-focused approach. Confidence supervising teams, contractors and traffic management in high-risk environments.
