The Opportunity The Health Care Complaints Commission (the Commission) is establishing a talent pool for Legal Officer Grade III/IV roles to support temporary resourcing needs within the Legal Services Division. This is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful and complex legal work that supports the Commission’s role in protecting public health and safety in NSW. We are seeking expressions of interest from motivated legal professionals interested in temporary opportunities within a dynamic and purpose-driven environment. The Role Legal Officers are responsible for the carriage of varied and complex legal matters and provide high quality legal advice to support the Commission’s regulatory functions. Key responsibilities include: - Managing a diverse legal caseload, including prosecution matters and regulatory proceedings - Analysing briefs of evidence and determining appropriate legal and enforcement action - Preparing legal documents, reports, submissions and correspondence - Appearing as an advocate in appropriate matters and/or briefing and instructing counsel - Providing timely, accurate and practical legal advice to support decision-making - Liaising with investigators and other stakeholders to progress matters effectively Selection Process Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis. The selection process may include a work-based assessment task and a suitability-based interview. Talent Pool This recruitment will be used to create a talent pool for temporary opportunities (up to 6 months) of the same classification that may become available over the next 18 months. Applications will be assessed progressively, with candidates moving through: - A short work-based task; and - A suitability interview Candidates will be assessed once for the HCCC talent pool and may be considered for opportunities as they become available. About You To be successful, you will: - Be an Australian lawyer with a practising certificate in NSW - Have experience managing legal matters in a complex or regulatory environment - Demonstrate strong analytical, written and communication skills - Be able to manage competing priorities and exercise sound judgement - Work collaboratively and contribute positively to team outcomes Please see the PD for more details about the role.
