Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and second Thursday Salary: Crisis Assistance, Supported Housing Industry (WA) Award, Community Service Worker Level 2.1, Casual rate - $41.63 per hour, plus superannuation (12.0%) Family-friendly work environment, and flexible working conditions Location: 88 Burwood Road, Burswood WA 6101 About Victoria Park Youth Accommodation (VPYA) VPYA is a not-for-profit organisation that provides holistic support and transitional accommodation for young people (aged 15-25 and their children) who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Our mission is to provide a safe, secure, and supported environment that enables our clients to develop the skills needed to live independently in the community. VPYA manages nineteen properties and delivers to clients across the Town of Victoria Park, City of Canning, and the City of Belmont. These properties are maintained by VPYA and fully furnished for a new tenant. Through a case management approach, staff offer personalised support to help clients stabilise their situations, take responsibility for their living arrangements, develop the skills to access long-term accommodation, and achieve their goals. It is not uncommon for our clients to have young children in their care. The Opportunity We are currently seeking a reliable and capable casual General Hand. The General Hand reporting to the Community Service Worker - Housing provides a broad range of support to maintain and service VPYA properties, including: Minor repairs and maintenance such as change a door lock, hang a door, changing or replacing flyscreens, tap washers and reseating, repair cupboard doors or draws etc. Maintain lawns and gardens Collect donations of furniture and other household items Assist with the preparation of a property for a new tenant, this might include the removal of damaged furniture, cleaning, and refurbishing Removal of rubbish and other items, and taken to the rubbish tip The range of duties will be consistent with the General Hand skills and capacity. Selection Criteria Sound interpersonal and communication skills to build positive relationships with other staff and a diverse and disadvantaged client group, with a focus on engaging with Aboriginal people. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a small team. Demonstrate patience, flexibility, and a non-judgmental attitude in working with clients coping with day-to-day challenges. Self-motivated, physically fit, and capable of working independently. Sound knowledge and ability to use a variety of power tools and other equipment. Hitch, drive and reverse trailer. Heavy lifting with specialised equipment.
