Set to open in July 2026 on the Geelong Waterfront, Nyaal Banyul will be Australia’s newest convention and event centre. Operated by the Victorian Convention and Event Trust (VCET), this premier venue features a 1,000-seat theatre and 3,700 square meters of versatile event space, ready to host everything from community gatherings to major conferences and entertainment events. About the role: We are seeking dedicated kitchen hands who will take pride in supporting the smooth operation of our new venue and understand that exceptional guest experiences are built on strong foundations behind the scenes. This role is essential to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, organisation, and operational readiness across all service areas. In this role you will be responsible for keeping the kitchen and common areas clean, organised and running smoothly. What you’ll be doing: Clean and store crockery, cutlery, glassware, cookware, and equipment. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation across all kitchen and back‑of‑house areas. Support kitchen teams by keeping preparation areas organised and hazard‑free. Assist in the removal of waste, recycling, and rubbish efficiently. Assist with setup, breakdown, and cleaning of event and service areas. Work collaboratively with kitchen, event, and operations teams to support smooth service delivery. About you: To be successful in this role, we require someone with the following: 1 to 2 years’ experience as a kitchen hand or a related operations role. Ability to get involved in a variety of different tasks including food preparation, cleaning, stock control and day-to-day food safety administration. Highly organised, a good communicator and problem solver and have a hands-on approach. Customer focused and enjoy speaking with people and working in a team environment. All required certificates and education completed. Excellent record of kitchen hand experience – reliable, honest and consistent. Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently with a positive and pro-active approach. Capable of delegating multiple tasks and working under pressure at times.
