Position Overview The Café Manager will be responsible for managing the daily operation of Trail St Cafe and ensuring the café runs efficiently during early morning, breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee, and takeaway service periods. The role includes supervising staff, coordinating front-of-house and kitchen activities, maintaining high customer service standards, managing stock and supplier requirements, overseeing café presentation, supporting coffee and food service standards, and ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety procedures. The Café Manager will play an important role in maintaining Trail St Cafe’s reputation as a local café known for quality coffee, fresh food, friendly service, and a welcoming community atmosphere. Key Responsibilities • Oversee the daily operation of the café, ensuring smooth service from opening through to close. • Manage early morning, breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee, dine-in, takeaway, and table booking service periods. • Supervise front-of-house and kitchen staff to ensure duties are completed efficiently during busy service times. • Maintain high standards of customer service and ensure customers are served in a friendly, timely, and professional manner. • Ensure the café provides a welcoming and relaxed environment for locals, visitors, workers, travellers, and regular customers. • Handle customer enquiries, booking requests, feedback, and complaints in a professional and timely manner. • Coordinate inside and outside seating arrangements to support customer comfort and efficient table turnover. • Prepare staff rosters, allocate daily duties, monitor attendance, and ensure appropriate staffing levels during peak periods. • Train, guide, and supervise staff in café service procedures, customer interaction, food handling, cleaning, and workplace standards. • Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure breakfast, brunch, healthy food options, Mexican-style dishes, café meals, and takeaway orders are prepared and served within expected timeframes. • Monitor the presentation, quality, portion consistency, and service timing of food and beverages before they are provided to customers. • Oversee coffee service standards, including consistency, presentation, speed of service, and customer satisfaction. • Manage coffee bean, milk, beverage, food, packaging, cleaning, and general café stock levels. • Liaise with local suppliers, including coffee bean suppliers, regarding product availability, quality, deliveries, pricing, and stock requirements. • Ensure coffee beans and other stock are stored correctly, rotated properly, and maintained in fresh and usable condition. • Support the sale and handling of retail coffee beans and related café products where required. • Monitor ice drinks, cold beverages, coffee products, and other menu items to ensure availability during service. • Maintain accurate records relating to stock, sales, supplier orders, staff hours, bookings, and daily café operations. • Monitor labour costs, stock usage, wastage, and supplies to support the financial performance of the business. • Ensure the dining area, service counter, coffee station, kitchen, storage areas, outside seating area, and customer facilities are clean, safe, organised, and presentable. • Implement and monitor food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace health and safety procedures. • Ensure staff comply with food handling, cleanliness, safety, and customer service requirements at all times. • Review daily operations and identify ways to improve service efficiency, customer experience, food and beverage quality, and staff performance. • Support menu updates, seasonal items, promotional activities, and customer service improvements in line with business needs. • Assist with maintaining the café’s local reputation by encouraging friendly service, consistency, and positive customer experiences. • Support community engagement, repeat customer relationships, and the café’s image as a local Wagga Wagga meeting place. • Assist with online, phone, and walk-in customer enquiries relating to bookings, orders, coffee beans, and café services. • Ensure the café operates effectively during weekdays, weekends, public holidays, and early morning trading hours as required.
