With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hourâs drive from the CBD (still within the bounds of Myki and ride-sharing), Melbourneâs North is fast becoming the place to be.   Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced Consumer Peer Support Worker to join the Broadmeadows Adult Inpatient Unit team.  Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourneâs rapidly growing outer north.  Services are provided through our six main campuses: Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.   About Mental Health Division:  Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.  Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.  We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of professional treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.    About the Role:  The Consumer Peer Support Worker is an innovative consumer focused role in a mental health setting offering various modes of support to consumers.  The role is largely informed by the worker's own 'lived experience' of mental ill-health, recovery, and accessing mental health services.  The Consumer Peer Support Worker will work in collaboration with the broader lived experience workforce across the Northern Health including consumer and carer/family workers, and clinical staff from a range of different disciplines in a holistic multidisciplinary team.   This role is responsible for: Providing one on one and group support to consumers; Maximising recovery and resilience for our consumers; Supporting consumers to feel heard and understood, including helping them access the supports they need; Assist in staff and consumers building an understanding of the effectiveness of the role of the peer workforce in clinical mental health services; Work in conjunction with clinicians in the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic support to consumers utilising the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) Model; Assist with the orientation and introduction to service for both consumers and new staff.   To be successful in this role you will have:  A personal lived/living experience of mental health challenges and accessing mental health services, and be willing to share this lived experience in a peer support capacity.    Next Steps . . .  If this opportunity sounds like the next step in your career, then we would love to hear from you.
