The business menu and online presence identify pizzas, meal deals, garlic bread/sides, pastry parcels, boba tea and related takeaway/dine-in food items. We are currently seeking 2 Cooks to join our Tennant Creek team in full time roles working 38 hours per week, rostered across lunch and dinner service, including weekends and peak trading periods as required. The proposed Cook positions are required to support the preparation and cooking of menu items during regular trading hours and peak periods, and to maintain consistent food quality, food safety and service timing in a regional Northern Territory location. The suitable candidates will be a practical, hands-on Cook with experience in a pizza, takeaway, casual dining or similar commercial kitchen environment. The candidate should be comfortable working in a small regional team, preparing food to order, maintaining consistent quality, handling dietary adjustments where required, and coordinating with front counter staff in a fast-paced service environment. Prior experience in a pizza-focused kitchen would be highly regarded, but the position is not intended to be limited to a Chef-level role involving full menu design or senior kitchen management. Duties and Responsibilities Food Preparation and Cooking: Prepare pizza dough, sauces, toppings and other ingredients according to the business recipes and service requirements. Stretch, roll, shape and portion pizza dough by hand or with appropriate kitchen equipment. Assemble and cook pizzas, including classic and specialty pizzas, with correct portion control, toppings, cooking time and presentation. Prepare and cook side dishes such as garlic bread, chicken items, pastry parcels and other menu items offered by the business. Prepare and handle ingredients for dietary or customer-specific requests, including gluten-free or modified orders where offered by the business. Monitor freshness, quality, storage temperature and safe handling of meat, dairy, vegetables, dough and other perishable ingredients. Ensure food is cooked, finished and presented to a consistent standard before service or dispatch for pickup/delivery. Kitchen Operations: Operate and maintain commercial kitchen equipment, including pizza ovens, gas ranges, grill, deep fryer, mixer, slicer, cool-room and freezer. Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, benches, food preparation areas and workstations. Follow food hygiene, sanitation, workplace safety and food handling requirements at all times. Assist with inventory control, stock rotation, portion control and minimising food waste. Coordinate with front counter and service staff to ensure orders are prepared accurately and within required timeframes. Assist with opening and closing kitchen procedures, including preparation lists, cleaning and safe storage of ingredients. Customer Service Support: Coordinate with servers or front counter staff on customer orders. Handle special dietary requests or food allergy concerns. Ensure orders are prepared accurately and on time. Teamwork and Safety: Work closely with other kitchen and front-of-house staff during busy lunch, dinner and weekend periods. Communicate clearly regarding order timing, ingredient shortages, special requests and food allergy concerns. Report equipment issues, stock shortages or food safety concerns to management promptly. Assist with training or guiding junior kitchen staff in basic food preparation, hygiene and kitchen procedures as required. Additional Responsibilities: Prepare side dishes, salads, or appetizers if required. Minimise food waste and control portion costs. Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties. Applicants must have : Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher, or equivalent relevant commercial cookery experience. Minimum 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in a commercial kitchen, preferably in a pizza restaurant, casual dining, takeaway or fast-paced food service environment. Ability to prepare dough, sauces, toppings, pizzas, sides and related menu items to a consistent commercial standard. Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, safe food storage, allergen awareness and workplace safety procedures. Ability to work under pressure during peak service periods while maintaining quality and order accuracy. Reliable, team-oriented and able to work rostered hours, including evenings, weekends and public holiday periods where required.
