Our research focuses on the development of novel immune-based therapies, for application in the local context, including application in the post-surgical area after removal of the primary cancer, to prevent cancer recurrence. We now have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to coordinate and conduct laboratory-based research in the field of paediatric solid cancer, under the direction of senior team members. This role will focus on analysis of patient-derived tissue for the identification of biomarkers to improve patient selection and stratification in future immunotherapy-focused clinical trials. Key responsibilities: Develop and maintain cancer cell cultures. Analyse patient-derived tissue via proteomic and transcriptomic techniques. Carry out other laboratory assays as required and participate in the day-to-day running of the laboratory. Conduct background research as required. Assist with the preparation of scientific reports, figures for publications or conference presentations and preparation of relevant correspondence. Based in our offices within Perth Children’s Hospital, this part-time (0.6 FTE) position will be offered for an initial 1-year period. About You The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or medical field, and will demonstrate the following: Experience working with patient-derived tissues and analysis by proteomic (immunohistochemistry) and transcriptomic (RNA extraction, PCR etc.) methods. Technical and analytical skills. Excellent organisational skills, flexibility and ability to set priorities and meet deadlines. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal). Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
