Job Description Position: APS5 Laboratory Technician Location: Canberra, ACT Start date: ASAP Duration: Approx. 12 months with potential to extend Pay rate: Rates negotiable dependent on skills and experience Security requirements: Must be an Australian citizen at time of application Overview: A government laboratory team is seeking an APS5 Laboratory Technician to support safety and performance testing across a broad range of technical domains, including electrical, electronic, software, cybersecurity, mechanical, physical and biological systems. This role contributes to ensuring that regulated products are safe, reliable and fit for purpose. The team undertakes laboratory testing, technical investigations, and standards development to support evidence-based regulatory decision-making and public health outcomes. You will be part of a collaborative environment delivering high-quality scientific and engineering services, supporting both pre-market and post-market activities, and contributing to national and international standards development. Responsibilities: Conduct laboratory testing, analyse results, and prepare reports on scientific and/or engineering investigations using a risk-based approach Support testing projects, including contributing to project proposals and test plans Assist in developing and reviewing testing methods, SOPs, spreadsheets, and instrument programs Perform testing and calibration of laboratory equipment, identify faults, and prepare technical reports with findings and recommendations Monitor laboratory inventory to ensure availability of consumables and effective operation of equipment Conducting evaluations of container closure systems for drug products and substances Coordinating evaluation workflows and ensuring alignment with internal records Contributing to SOPs, templates, and internal guidance for evaluation processes Experience/requirements: Mandatory: Relevant qualifications or demonstrated equivalent experience in Engineering, Science, Technology, or laboratory testing related to regulated products Desirable: Certificate, diploma, or degree in a relevant field Experience in a regulated or quality-managed laboratory environment Experience in industries such as medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or other regulated sectors Key capabilities: Understanding of (or ability to learn) quality-controlled laboratory testing principles Ability to interpret and apply technical scientific and/or engineering standards Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess qualitative and quantitative data High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, unbiased results Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 13485) or ability to learn Apply now or contact SOS Recruitment on 6260 8888 for a confidential discussion.
