Introduction As Senior Worker Foster Care ensure high-quality service delivery, and provide leadership and support to the Foster Care Team. Description The Senior Worker Foster Care is the primary contact for staff and foster carers engaged with the MASP Foster Care Program. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and providing leadership and support to the Foster Care Team. Reporting to the Team Leader Placement & Support, the Senior Worker Foster Care actively participates in supervision, team meetings, and practice development initiatives. The role requires a strong leadership presence, offering mentoring, guidance, and professional advice to team members and carers. Key responsibilities include the direct supervision and support of volunteer foster carers and staff within the program, ensuring they are equipped to provide safe and nurturing environments for children and young people. The Senior Worker Foster Care also leads the assessment process for potential foster carers, including initial assessments, annual reviews, and suitability evaluations in line with MASP policy and Department Families Fairness & Housing (DFFH) standards. In addition, the Senior Worker Foster Care plays a central role in carer recruitment strategies, contributing to planning, community engagement, training, and onboarding processes to ensure a sustainable and diverse pool of foster carers. The position fosters a collaborative team culture, promotes best practice in out-of-home care, and ensures compliance with relevant frameworks and standards. Skills And Experiences Essential role-specific skills, knowledge and experience A qualification in social work, youth work, welfare studies or social science or other relevant tertiary studies. Demonstrated experience in providing supervision, guidance, and support to caregivers and staff working with children and young people in out of home care. Sound understanding of trauma-informed approaches and the impact of trauma on children, young people, and families, with the ability to apply these frameworks in practice. Demonstrated knowledge of Out of Home Care Case Management practices, the Best Interest Case Practice Model, Out of Home Care Frameworks and Cultural planning, with the ability to apply these effectively in service delivery. Strong leadership skills with experience in facilitating and implementing training, allocating cases, supporting carer and staff development, and contributing to service. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with clients, caregivers, staff, and external stakeholders. Experience in assessing and responding to incidents, including timely reporting and implementation of effective crisis management strategies. Proven ability to assess referrals and develop client service plans that meet individual needs and program requirements. High-level written and verbal communication skills, with strong computer literacy and proficiency in relevant systems and documentation. Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, and to exercise sound professional judgment in complex situations. Extensive demonstrated experience in the provision of support and service delivery to young people who have experienced significant neglect or abuse issues, challenging behaviours, loss of family and personal connection, lack of schooling and drug and alcohol issues. A broad understanding of child and adolescent protective issues. Highly desirable role-specific skills, knowledge and experience Management experience in a not for profit / charitable organisation. Understanding and knowledge of planning models in the Children, Youth & Families Act 2005 (Vic).
