Machinist - Manual Gear Cutting & Grinding Specialist Full‑Time | Precision Mechanical Manufacturing | Sydney We are seeking a highly skilled Machinist with specialist experience in gear cutting, grinding, and power transmission components to join our production team. This role is hands‑on, technical, and central to the manufacture of precision mechanical parts used in heavy industrial equipment. Monday-Friday ongoing 7.30am-4pm - Early Finishes on Fridays $45.00ph About the Role You will be responsible for the end‑to‑end manufacture of precision components including spur, helical, and bevel gears, shafts, and other rotating equipment parts. Working within a small, collaborative workshop, you'll operate a range of specialised machinery and contribute to high accuracy production outcomes. Key Responsibilities Setup & Operation: Configure and operate gear hobbing machines and shapers Precision Machining: Perform gear milling and grinding to achieve the required tolerances Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, gear data charts, and technical specifications Quality Control: Use specialised metrology tools, gear tooth verniers, micrometers, lead/index testers, to verify tooth geometry and dimensional accuracy Maintenance: Carry out routine machine maintenance, tool sharpening, and basic troubleshooting to maintain production efficiency Workshop Support: Assist with general machining tasks and collaborate with the broader production team Skills & Experience Industry Background: Proven experience in gear cutting or manufacturing rotating mechanical equipment Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of gear geometry, indexing, materials (steels, alloys, bronzes), and heat‑treatment considerations Tooling Expertise: Competent in selecting and setting up hobs, cutters, arbors, mandrels, and specialised work‑holding fixtures Safety & Quality: Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and "right‑first‑time" manufacturing standards What We Offer Stable, long‑term role in a specialised mechanical workshop Variety of work across multiple gear types and industrial components Supportive team environment with strong technical capability Onsite parking, supplied uniforms, and half‑day Fridays Opportunities for skill development in advanced gear manufacturing
