We are working with a global industrial manufacturing business which operate in 18 countries and employ over 16,000 people worldwide. They are now looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer/Manager to join their capex team working on exciting projects. The successful applicant will work as part of a multi-disciplined team, with proven experience also performing project manager duties leading a team. Role Detail Support the Senior Project Manager and/or Engineering Team Leader to ensure the effective delivery of the project, taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of the project and client liaison and supervision of other staff on the project. Project Details Cold Reduction Process line equipment upgrades including mechanical and structural elements Applicant may be required to work across multiple projects Projects will include aspects of piping design, fluid flow / fluid mechanics and instrumentation (hydraulics, compressed air, water), and design of basic structural components (tanks, basic equipment support structures) Projects may also have cross discipline functionality, and the applicant would be required to work closely with other engineering disciplines Tasks Development and management of safety systems and controls through design, Installation and Commissioning of equipment. Development and review of mechanical designs working closely with Mechanical Design Draftsperson. Undertaking of engineering analysis and preparation of engineering calculations (Piping and flow systems, basic structural analysis). Detailed review of engineering drawings including equipment layouts, detailed manufacturing drawings, process and instrumentation diagrams, and schematics. Undertake design and constructability reviews in conjunction with specialists / contractors. Involvement in Hazard and Risk analysis activities Preparation of work scopes and tender documents. Procurement of Equipment and contract management. Control of engineering package budget and schedule Implementation, review and sign off QA activities associated with the purchase and installation of equipment Management and supervision of onsite contractors Development of plans for commissioning of equipment and process systems. Involvement in commissioning of equipment and process systems. Engineering Experience & Skills Mechanical engineering background with an associated degree in engineering. Design process and design management skills with a proven systematic approach to ensure the design output meets the stakeholder requirement Experience with using AutoCAD and 3D modelling programs will be advantageous Experience in the following design applications will be advantageous: Pressure Piping (AS4041) Basic structural design of components eg pressure vessels, platforms, support stands. Experience in heavy lifting of equipment both design and execution Heavy Industry or Manufacturing (or similar) site experience (safety systems, safe system of work documentation, contractor supervision etc). Good communication and organisation skills to interface with a multi-disciplined team and stakeholders at the design stage and contractors at the installation phase. Project Management Experience & Skills Previous Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer experience. Project Time Management – understanding project scheduling, working with key milestones and influences impacting on the project lifecycle. Project Cost Management – understand and take responsibility for the overall cost management process with regard to budgets, cost reports and cost planning, including an ability to: Understanding of project quality management. Project Design Management – understanding of the design process on their job, including the nature and role of design documentation, the roles of the different consultants and contractors and the authority approval process. Project Risk Management – an ability to understand and identify project risks, finalise the risk management plan, manage specific risk issues and prepare a Risk Management Plan. Project Contract Management – an ability to understand contractual principles available to manage the project risks to suit the client’s objectives plus engaging consultants and contractors. Financial – an understanding of the more complex financial objectives of the project and the financial arrangements between the company and contractors / suppliers. Client Management – create a positive client impression/rapport and produce positive feedback from clients. Leadership - an ability to take control of every-day responsibilities, organising and guiding others Engineering Registration Requirements The Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019(the Act) commenced on 1 July 2021. The Act requires you to be registered with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA)to provide professional engineering services in a prescribed area of engineering in Victoria, or from a location outside Victoria, if the services are intended for Victoria. It is a strongly preferred that candidates are currently registered to provide professional engineering services in Victoria. If candidates are not currently registered, they must be eligible for registration and commit to commencing the assessment and registration process on appointment.
