This is a Mental Health Liaison Clinician role with Queensland Government based in Brisbane, QLD, AU Queensland Government Role Seniority - mid level, senior More about the Mental Health Liaison Clinician role at Queensland Government The QAS Mental Health Liaison Service (MHLS) supports dispatch and clinical decision making for people who are experiencing a mental health crisis in a prehospital setting and accessing services via Triple Zero (000). The Mental Health Liaison Clinicians work in the Brisbane Operations Centre (OpCen) 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide information, advice and assistance to Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMDs), supervisors, managers, paramedics and on-scene officers. We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes: Demonstrated well developed expertise, knowledge and experience in mental health service delivery, including a high-level of confidence in complex risk assessment and risk management, and an understanding of the processes of access, entry, triage, assessment, treatment options and care for people with complex needs. Demonstrated advanced level skills and experience in working with consumers with complex needs including compromised mental health, suicidality, mental illness and complex psycho-social difficulties in the pre-hospital context, including vulnerable people and those experiencing domestic and family violence. Proven ability to apply the Mental Health Act 2016 and the Public Health Act 2005; as well as an understanding of key state and national mental health frameworks and guidelines underpinning contemporary service delivery. Proven ability to apply advanced level clinical judgement, risk assessment and risk management strategies for people experiencing a mental health crisis in the prehospital setting, including the ability to problem solve and prioritise in a demanding service environment while considering the best interests of consumers, carers, communities, stakeholders and the QAS. Demonstrated advanced level consultation, facilitation and oral and written communication skills as applicable in a complex organisational environment. The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role: Appointments to this position will require proof of qualification/s and current registration as outlined below. For Psychologists: Eligibility for full registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is required. The possession of an Australian Psychological Society (APS) accredited postgraduate qualification in clinical or forensic psychology and/or endorsement in clinical or forensic psychology will be highly regarded. For Social Workers: The possession of a tertiary degree in Social Work providing eligibility for membership to the Australian Associate of Social Workers is required. For Occupational Therapists: Eligibility for full registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) is required. For Nurses: Eligibility for full registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia is required. It is an express condition of employment for all people who are to perform roles with direct patient contact to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following infectious diseases during their employment: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis (Whooping Cough); Hepatitis B; Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR); Varicella (Chickenpox); Influenza.
