About the Position: In the role of Cook at New Star Kebab Family Restaurant, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking authentic Turkish dishes to the highest standards in our fast-paced kitchen. Reporting to the Chef/Manager, you will contribute to delivering exceptional meals for our customers while maintaining food safety, quality, and efficiency. This position is essential to supporting our busy operations and upholding the restaurant’s reputation for quality Turkish cuisine. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and cook dishes according to the restaurant’s recipes and food standards. Portion, season, and prepare ingredients including vegetables, meats, poultry, seafood, and spices. Follow cooking techniques such as grilling, baking, frying, sautéing, and tandoori preparation. Prepare food for dine-in, takeaway, catering, and special dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian, halal, gluten-free). Assist in creating daily specials and contribute ideas for new menu items. Maintain consistency in food taste, presentation, and portion sizes. Ensure food is cooked and presented to quality standards and customer expectations. Store food items appropriately, ensuring compliance with food safety standards and FIFO (First-In-First-Out) stock rotation. Monitor stock levels and advise the Head Chef when supplies are low or require ordering. Clean and sanitise work areas, equipment, and utensils in accordance with hygiene standards. Comply with Australian food safety laws and kitchen health and safety protocols. Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, fryers, grills, and mixers. Work cooperatively with other kitchen and service staff to ensure timely and efficient meal service. Follow kitchen policies regarding food portioning, recipe adherence, and substitutions. Assist with training and mentoring of junior kitchen staff and kitchen hands. Minimise food wastage through effective storage, preparation, and portioning practices. Required technical and interpersonal skills: Proficiency in cooking techniques (grilling, baking, frying, sautéing), food preparation, stock rotation and inventory monitoring, operation of commercial kitchen equipment, and strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards (including Australian regulations); excellent teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills to work cooperatively with kitchen and service staff under pressure, along with the ability to mentor juniors and contribute ideas while minimising waste.
