Description About 5B 5B is an Australian clean technology company on a mission to accelerate the world’s transition to renewable energy. Our name reflects the 5 billion years of sunshine our planet still has and our drive to unlock it in the simplest and most powerful way possible. We’re transforming the way solar farms are built through the 5B Maverick, a prefabricated solar solution designed from first principles to deliver faster deployment, greater efficiency, and lower costs. Structurally efficient, aerodynamic, and installed at lightning speed, Maverick is redefining large-scale solar construction around the world. To accelerate our innovation, 5B was recently awarded AUD $46 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), supporting a major R&D and product development program to further scale our technology globally. Learn more about us: Home | 5B – Solar Reinvented The Opportunity: We’re looking for a detail driven Quality Control Engineer to ensure our products consistently meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance. This role is hands-on and critical to our operations, focusing on inspecting, testing, and verifying materials and products across the production lifecycle. You’ll work closely with production teams, identify and resolve quality issues, and help embed a culture of continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities: The Quality Control Engineer is responsible for conducting detailed inspections of raw materials, in-process components, and finished goods, alongside performing thorough testing to identify defects and ensure all items meet required standards. Verifying that products comply with technical drawings, project specifications, and relevant regulatory requirements, maintaining a high level of quality throughout the production process. This role involves documenting non-conformances, raising Corrective Action Reports (CARs) or Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and actively tracking these issues through to resolution. The Quality Control Engineer also leads or contributes to structured root cause analysis using methodologies such as 8D to prevent recurrence of quality issues. To support efficient operations, the Quality Control Engineer applies Statistical Process Control (SPC) and monitors key quality metrics, ensuring that quality control processes enable smooth production flow rather than creating bottlenecks. They are also responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting measurement equipment, including tools such as calipers, micrometers, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). In addition, the role requires preparing clear, data driven reports to communicate quality performance and findings to internal stakeholders and clients. A strong focus on continuous improvement is essential, with active participation in 5S initiatives and the application of lean manufacturing principles to enhance overall operational efficiency. About You The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical proficiency, with in-depth knowledge of quality management systems (QMS), testing protocols, and measurement equipment. They will possess highly developed analytical thinking and problem solving skills, enabling them to interpret complex technical drawings and identify even subtle defects. You will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or a related discipline), with additional professional certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Lean/Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) highly regarded. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will be required to translate technical quality requirements into clear, actionable tasks for production teams, while also preparing concise and informative reports for senior management. You will thrive in a collaborative team environment, contributing positively to shared goals and supporting the development and execution of effective strategies. The successful candidate will bring 3–5 years of experience in a similar role, with hands-on experience with both non-destructive testing (NDT) and destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic or radiographic testing, as well as other hand held testing devices. You will also have experience optimising operational efficiency through metrics such as Batch Release Cycle Time and Inspection Cycle Time, ensuring quality control processes do not become production bottlenecks. Familiarity with managing Non-Conformance Report (NCR) ageing is important, ensuring timely resolution of quality issues. Why 5B? At 5B, you will work on globally impactful technology with a team that values first principles thinking, speed, and practical innovation. We offer flexible working, progressive leave and parental policies, and benefits that support life beyond work, all in a mission-driven, high-growth environment.
