An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Associate or Special Counsel (7 PQE) to join a leading independent Australian law firm within its highly regarded Restructuring & Insolvency practice in Sydney. The Team The team is recognised as a leading restructuring and insolvency practice , with a strong reputation for acting on complex, high-profile and often contentious matters . It combines deep technical expertise with a commercial and pragmatic approach , and is particularly well regarded for its work across insolvency litigation, investigations and creditor-side strategy , as well as its ability to navigate sensitive and fast-moving situations. The Role This role sits within a team known for advising on complex restructuring, insolvency and distressed situations , with a strong emphasis on both front-end strategic advisory work and insolvency-related disputes . The successful candidate will be involved in: Advising insolvency practitioners (liquidators, administrators and receivers) on appointments, investigations, and complex administrations Acting in high-stakes insolvency litigation , including voidable transaction claims, recovery actions, and disputes involving directors’ duties and creditor claims Advising financial institutions, private capital providers and corporates on enforcement strategy, security realisation and distressed exposures Working on distressed and special situations transactions , including acquisitions and restructurings involving underperforming or insolvent businesses Providing strategic advice to boards and stakeholders in financially distressed scenarios, including risk management and contingency planning Exposure to regulatory and contentious aspects of insolvency, often involving multi-party and high-pressure environments The role offers significant responsibility, including running matters, direct client engagement and contributing to strategic decision-making , as well as mentoring junior lawyers.
