Job Description We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer to take ownership of large-scale, complex software development initiatives and provide strategic technical leadership across high-impact programs. This is a senior, influential role where you’ll shape architecture, guide engineering teams, and ensure the delivery of secure, high-quality, and scalable solutions aligned to business objectives. Lead end-to-end software development and technical design across complex environments Drive engineering strategy to ensure high-quality, maintainable, and scalable codebases Provide expert technical advice on development, integration, and system optimisation Oversee release management, go-live activities, and ongoing production support Lead analysis, design, development, prototyping, testing, and maintenance activities Review and approve solutions, conducting high-level impact assessments Ensure adherence to software development standards, methodologies, and governance Resolve highly complex technical and operational issues Build and manage strategic stakeholder relationships across business and technology teams Contribute to workforce planning, capability uplift, and performance improvement initiatives Prepare executive-level briefs and provide recommendations to influence decision-making Oversee project delivery, cost analysis, and strategic prioritisation Qualifications Proven experience leading large-scale, complex software engineering initiatives Strong technical leadership with the ability to mentor and guide engineering teams Experience working with legacy and modern technology stacks in enterprise environments Technical expertise Mainframe & Legacy: COBOL, M204/User Language, CAGEN/Broadcom-Gen Modern Development: TypeScript, API integration, Git-based development Integration & Platforms: IBM App Connect, IBM Case Management, API Connect Databases: M204, PostgreSQL, DB2, Teradata, MS SQL, Oracle Web Technologies: Drupal, WordPress (themes, modules, API integration) Data & Engineering: Data modelling, querying, scripting, and development practices Frameworks: ISIS framework (including M204 platform) Additional Information Why join us: NCS Australia is where you can feel at home, nurturing your talents and skills as we make tomorrow together, one day at a time.
