To improve coverage for a round-the-clock DevOps team, we currently have a strong preference for candidates who can work in an Americas timezone. We are looking for a self-driven DevOps engineer to help build, automate, operate, and improve infrastructure for Ethereum network development, testing, and production systems. Kubernetes And Infrastructure The ideal candidate should have: Strong experience with Kubernetes and Terraform/OpenTofu. Experience administering self-hosted Kubernetes clusters such as RKE2, K3s, or bare-metal Kubernetes. We value hands-on operational knowledge beyond managed platforms like EKS, GKE, or AKS. Competence with Kubernetes architecture: pods, deployments, services, ingress, stateful sets, storage, control plane components, node lifecycle, upgrades, rollbacks, and failure recovery. Familiarity with Kubernetes networking: service discovery, ingress, overlay networks, CNIs, load balancing, DNS, and cross-cluster connectivity. Experience operating Kubernetes across multiple infrastructure providers, including cross-provider networking, routing, VPNs/tunnels, firewalls, DNS, and latency-aware design. Ability to tune infrastructure for cost-efficient performance, especially for high-throughput, network-heavy blockchain workloads. Competence with CI/CD pipelines for deploying containerized applications to Kubernetes. Strong interest in building hands-off, fully automated infrastructure and software delivery systems rather than relying on manual operational steps. Automation And Operations The ideal candidate should have: High competence with Linux, shell scripting, systemd, journald, and server administration. Strong understanding of server security: firewalls, public key authentication, patching, least privilege access, and operational hardening. Strong networking fundamentals, including subnetting, routing, DNS, and domain management. Experience with Ansible playbooks, inventories, workspaces, roles, Jinja2 templates, and YAML. A preference for automating repeatable work, reducing manual intervention, and improving the reliability of systems over time. Blockchain And Ethereum The ideal candidate should have: Competence with blockchain data structures such as blocks, forks, and chain state. High-level understanding of blockchain signature schemes such as ECDSA. Familiarity with blockchain P2P networks, peer discovery, gossip, and network behavior under different conditions. Genuine enthusiasm for Ethereum and a desire to learn deeply. Candidates with extensive DevOps experience but limited blockchain experience will be considered. Candidates who cannot demonstrate an interest in Ethereum need not apply; enthusiasm is critical. Working Style We provide high-level strategic guidance and constructive feedback, but we do not micro-manage. Candidates must be comfortable owning their day-to-day work, identifying problems, proposing improvements, and driving tasks to completion without waiting for detailed instructions. We are especially interested in people who notice fragile or repetitive processes and turn them into reliable automated systems. Candidates should be willing to rotate being on-call for infrastructure issues and outages. Candidates must be proficient in technical conversations in English, both written and verbal. Perfect English is not required. No jerks or bullies. The Role You will work alongside developers building core decentralized network infrastructure. Our work requires small-scale and large-scale network testing and monitoring. As a DevOps engineer, you will create testnets, devnets, tooling, automation, and observability systems that help developers identify issues and verify software implementations under a variety of network conditions. We also run high-performance production instances of our software. These require careful maintenance, strong monitoring, reliable automation, and a high standard of security practices. Beyond operating existing infrastructure, we want someone who will improve it. We welcome new ideas, better tooling, better automation, and cleaner operational designs. The goal is to keep moving toward infrastructure and software delivery systems that are reliable, reproducible, and as hands-off as possible. Our current tooling relies heavily on Ansible, Kubernetes, Terraform/OpenTofu, and Kurtosis for testnets. Experience with all of these technologies is not required, but it is favorable. Locations The candidate is free to choose between remote work or working locally in Sydney. Remote work is an essential part of our company culture, and remote team members are fully integrated into the team. The Company Sigma Prime was established in 2016 and provides information security and niche development services to some of the biggest names in Ethereum and DeFi. Lighthouse, our Beacon Chain implementation, is a key piece of Ethereum infrastructure. Our engineers have world-class knowledge of Ethereum staking and maintain high-performance validators across several testing and production environments.
