APS6 Strategic Communications Adviser A federal government organisation is seeking an experienced APS6 Strategic Communications Adviser with demonstrated experience in strategic communications roles within the public sector. This role sits within a small, high‑performing communications team, requiring a collaborative mindset and a willingness to support activity across a range of communications functions. You will work closely with senior communications staff and stakeholders across the organisation to support consistent, well‑considered communication approaches. The position is available as either a 12‑month non‑ongoing engagement or an APS transfer (S26 – temporary or permanent), and may be based in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide, with flexible working arrangements available. About the Role As a Strategic Communications Adviser, you will support the development and delivery of communication strategies, narratives and engagement approaches aligned with organisational priorities. You will contribute to planning, writing, briefing and evaluation activities, and provide support across the broader communications function as required. This role operates in a complex environment and requires sound judgement, strong writing skills and a proactive, team‑oriented approach. Key Responsibilities Support the development of communication strategies and plans Contribute to organisational narrative and messaging frameworks Assist with cross‑channel communication planning and alignment Prepare strategic briefs, written advice and communication materials Support evaluation and continuous improvement of communication effectiveness Work collaboratively across teams to align communication activity with organisational priorities Provide flexible support across communications functions in a small team environment About You You are an experienced public sector communications professional with a strong grounding in strategic communications and a collaborative working style. You are comfortable working in small teams, contributing at both a strategic and delivery level, and supporting colleagues across a variety of communications activities.
