With a booming, culturally rich and diverse community, and less than an hourâs drive from the CBD (still within the bounds of Myki and ride-sharing), Melbourneâs North is fast becoming the place to be.   Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced General Surgery Fellow in Endocrine & Upper GI to join the Department of General Surgery.  This is a full-time, fixed term position from 20 July 2026 to 31 January 2027  Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourneâs rapidly growing outer north.  Services are provided through our six main campuses: Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals, and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.  About the Role: The Department of General Surgery comprises of four elective units: Surgical Unit 1: General / Colorectal Surgical Unit 2: General / Breast Surgical Unit 3: General / Endocrine & Upper GI Surgical Unit 4: General / Hepatopancreaticobiliary  All units are engaged in inpatient and outpatient support of the northern population.  General Surgery supports the Endoscopy Service and Fellows interested in furthering their endoscopy skills are encouraged to attend endoscopy sessions.  The Department of General Surgery comprises of one emergency unit, AGSU. All Fellows participate in on-call including nights & weekends for the Acute General Surgery Unit (AGSU)  Surgical units 1 â 4 primarily manage elective surgical patients with AGSU admitting and managing emergency patients. All General Surgery units have RACS accredited registrars, as well as, HMOs and interns. Northern Health Medical School (University of Melbourne) Medical students are also assigned to the units through-out the year. Units work across Northern Health campuses in particular the Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, and Craigieburn Health Service.  Candidates are expected to be actively involved with Divisional, sub-specialty and unit audit, medical student, junior resident and registrar education and research including participating in the NH Surgery Education Program and the NH Research Program.  Fellows are expected to submit research proposal/s, with the desired aim of conference presentation or paper publication as part of their ongoing CME and personal development requirements.   To be successful in this role you will have: Essential Medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Undergraduate medical qualification as a first degree is essential â MBBS, MD or equivalent Appropriate specialty qualifications such as Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (General Surgery) or equivalent is preferred â (FRACS), but final year GSET registrars who have passed their final examination will also be considered Must be a holder of a relevant employment visa if not an Australian resident. Current National Police and Working with Children History Check  Desirable GESA certification on Recognition of Training in Endoscopy is desirable and would be required for those practising endoscopy / colonoscopy unsupervised lists Further education or research qualifications, eg MD, PhD  Next Steps . . .
