We are seeking an accomplished Pre-Contracts Manager to lead commercial governance and contract management activities across the pre-contracts lifecycle, supporting tendering and bid development for major project opportunities. This role will focus on contract review, commercial risk assessment, bid support, and negotiation of upstream and downstream agreements, ensuring GIS enters projects on balanced and commercially sustainable terms. The role will also provide strategic commercial support to project teams where required. In this senior role, you will: Lead contractual and commercial reviews of tender documentation, head contracts, and major subcontract agreements Provide strategic advice on risk allocation, departures and commercial negotiation strategy during he bid phase Supporting estimating and bid teams in developing commercially robust tender submissions Negotiate contractual terms with clients, partners and key subcontractors Establish appropriate commercial frameworks and governance for major project bids Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, legislative requirements and client contract frameworks Provide expert commercial, contractual and claims guidance to General Managers and Project Managers, and the broader delivery team where required Drive contract performance, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, supporting successful outcomes This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, enjoys solving complex commercial challenges, and wants to contribute meaningfully to the success of a growing national contractor. Position Requirements Tertiary qualifications in contracts, commercial/business law or similar Legal, Project Management or Quantity Surveying qualifications highly regarded Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in a contract or commercial management role, ideally within energy, utilities, infrastructure or construction Demonstrated experience reviewing and negotiating major project contracts Strong understanding of risk allocation within EPC, D&C and construct only contracts Demonstrated experience leading teams to deliver commercial outcomes Exceptional stakeholder relationship management and interpersonal skills Experience in commercial negotiation, claims management and dispute resolution Strong understanding of construction legislation, including security of payment regimes Experience in renewable energy projects advantageous Essential skills, qualifications and experience Strong understanding of the Contract formations and capable of performing risk based analysis and review of contract conditions High level of commercial acumen and analytical capability Legally trained background highly advantageous Strong professional writing, contract drafting and claims assessment skills Experience preparing commercial departures, clarifications and negotiation strategies during tendering Ability to manage multiple tenders and priorities within strict submission timeframes Highly organised with strong planning and prioritisation skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a cohesive team Advanced numerical, analytical and problem‑solving skills Right to work within Australia essential If after reading the details of this vacancy you feel you meet the selection criteria, and would be a good fit for the role, please select apply.
