Role Purpose The Forklift Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient and accurate movement of stock, pallets and materials within the workplace to support daily operational requirements. The role exists to ensure goods are received, handled, stored, replenished and dispatched in a timely manner while maintaining inventory accuracy, workplace safety and operational continuity. In the Australian market, this role commonly includes licensed forklift operation, load handling, stock control support, safety checks and coordination with warehouse and logistics personnel. This position contributes directly to productivity, customer service outcomes and the effective operation of warehouse or distribution activities. The role also supports compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, internal procedures and reporting obligations, ensuring materials handling activities are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with business expectations. SafeWork NSW requires forklift operators to hold the relevant current high risk work licence, be trained on the specific forklift used, and complete pre-start and operational safety checks. Key Responsibilities Operate forklift equipment safely and efficiently to load, unload, transport, stack and relocate pallets, stock and materials across warehouse, storage and dispatch areas. Conduct pre-start and routine operational checks on forklift equipment, including tyres, forks, hydraulics, lights, brakes, steering, warning devices and seatbelt condition, and report defects promptly. Receive inbound goods, verify quantities and condition against delivery documentation, and place stock in designated storage locations in accordance with site procedures. Pick, stage and prepare outbound goods accurately for dispatch to support timely order fulfilment and transport requirements. Load and unload vehicles, containers and storage areas using correct load-handling techniques to maintain product integrity and reduce operational risk. Ensure loads are stable, secure and within equipment capacity limits, and use approved attachments and safe travel practices when handling oversized or visibility-restricting loads. Maintain accurate inventory movements through scanning systems, stock records, manifests, delivery dockets and related warehouse documentation. Perform stock put-away, replenishment and cycle count support activities to help maintain inventory accuracy and efficient warehouse flow. Follow traffic management plans, site safety rules, exclusion zones and pedestrian awareness requirements while operating plant and equipment. Work closely with supervisors, warehouse staff, transport personnel and other team members to coordinate workload priorities and meet daily operational targets. Identify damaged goods, unsafe conditions, equipment faults or process issues and escalate them to the relevant supervisor in a timely manner. Keep work areas clean, orderly and free from hazards to support safe access, efficient operations and good housekeeping standards. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and comply with workplace health and safety policies, procedures and instructions at all times. Provide accurate and timely reporting on completed tasks, stock discrepancies, incidents, maintenance concerns and operational issues. Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting practical changes to warehouse layout, stock handling methods, safety practices and workflow efficiency. What We Are Looking For (Requirements) Minimum one (1) year of relevant work experience in forklift operation, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing or a related materials handling environment. Relevant qualification such as a Certificate II or Certificate III in Warehousing Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain Operations or a related field, or equivalent industry experience. Current and valid High Risk Work Licence for forklift operation appropriate to the equipment used in the workplace, including LF class where required for forklift truck operation in New South Wales. Demonstrated ability to operate forklifts safely, conduct pre-start inspections, handle stock accurately and follow warehouse procedures and safety controls. Sound understanding of workplace health and safety obligations, safe load handling practices, traffic management awareness and incident reporting requirements. Good communication, teamwork and time management skills, with the ability to work productively in a fast-paced operational environment.
