POSITION SUMMARY The Primary Health Educator is responsible for assessing, planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating clinical education and training programs that support the professional development and credentialing of nursing, midwifery, Aboriginal Health Workers, trainees, and students. The role supports the delivery of high-quality, culturally safe primary health care by providing education, supervision, mentorship, and direct clinical support to MDAS staff across clinic and community settings. All education and training activities must align with professional standards, cultural safety principles, and relevant VET Quality Framework and AQTF requirements . The Primary Health Educator may provide direct clinical care for the purpose of education, supervision, or in emergency situations, ensuring continuity of care and capability development. This position requires the ability and willingness to travel regularly to MDAS sites in Swan Hill and Kerang to support service delivery and clinical workforce development. POSITION DETAILS Position Title: Educator, Traineeships – Health & Clinical Services Department: Health and Clinical Services Reports to: Executive General Manager, Health & Clinical Services Location: Mildura (with regular travel to Swan Hill and Kerang) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Clinical Education and Training Provide direct clinical supervision, education, training, mentoring, and support to clinical staff to ensure credentialing requirements and annual assessments are met and accurately recorded. Apply adult learning principles and diverse educational approaches to build staff capability while respecting the dignity, culture, values, beliefs, and rights of individuals and communities. Deliver direct clinical care when required for education purposes or in emergency circumstances. Design and deliver education programs aligned with VET competency standards and AQTF requirements, including clear learning outcomes and assessment criteria. Ensure all training programs and materials are culturally safe, appropriate, and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and community. 2. Relationship Management Contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to health care through effective liaison with General Practitioners, Aboriginal Health Workers, Allied Health professionals, and external health service providers. Work in consultation with management, educators, and key stakeholders to identify learning needs and design education programs that respond to staff capability gaps and operational and strategic priorities. Attend relevant meetings, forums, and education programs to ensure current research, evidence-based practice, and contemporary treatment models are integrated into MDAS services. 3. Leadership Provide leadership and professional role modelling in collaboration with the Practice Nurse, Clinical Coordinator, Health Manager, and broader leadership team. Participate in research and continuous quality improvement activities to strengthen clinical knowledge and practice across MDAS. Escalate concerns through appropriate reporting channels where client or family safety may be at risk. Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of policies and procedures, ensuring continuous improvement and the consistent application of culturally safe practice. 4. Comply with all relevant quality, risk management, occupational health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures. Actively promote and embed cultural safety across clinical settings and ensure compliance with VET and clinical governance standards. Monitor and continuously improve the quality and safety of care and services. Support internal and external audit activities related to clinical governance, cultural safety, and VET compliance. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Clinical Education Demonstrated minimum of three years’ experience in providing clinical teaching and education within a health setting, using adult learning principles. Professional Development Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to maintaining clinical competence as a Registered Nurse or Aboriginal Health Practitioner. Communication Proven ability to communicate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Interpersonal and Technical Skills Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and advanced computer literacy to develop and deliver education programs. Cultural Competence Demonstrated commitment to culturally inclusive practice, with an ability to engage, learn, and adapt service delivery to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people. QUALIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATION Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) or willingness to obtain. Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse or Aboriginal Health Practitioner. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Current Australian Driver’s Licence. Valid Employee Working with Children Check. Current National Police Check. Evidence of COVID-19 vaccination and required boosters, or a valid medical exemption.
