The opportunity We are seeking a Finance Manager -Urban Utilities to join Downers Energy & Utilities business, supporting our Water QLD operations. Reporting to the Head of Finance -Water QLD, this role is a key leadership and business partnering position, working closely with Operations, Project teams and senior stakeholders to drive financial performance, commercial outcomes and strategic objectives. Sitting at the centre of the business, you will be responsible for end-to-end financial management across a portfolio of major infrastructure projects. This includes project valuation, month-end reporting, forecasting, budgeting and working capital management, alongside ensuring robust financial governance, controls and compliance across the sector. You will play a critical role in enabling informed decision-making, maximising project returns and supporting operational performance. In addition, you will lead and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and collaboration while building capability for future growth. What you will do Partner with Operations and Project teams to drive financial performance, forecasting accuracy and commercial outcomes Lead project valuation (including JV/alliance environments), month-end reporting and full budgeting/forecasting cycles (WD5/WD10) Oversee working capital, cashflow optimisation, WIP, billing, cost and revenue management Deliver detailed financial and profitability analysis, including variance and performance insights Provide strategic financial input into bids, tenders and investment decisions, including cashflow modelling Support challenged projects with financial analysis and recovery planning Ensure strong financial governance, controls, audit readiness and compliance with group policies (including DFA) Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, building capability, succession pathways and a high-performance culture What we offer Leadership role with genuine influence and strategic impact Strong focus on professional development, mentoring and internal mobility Access to Perks@Downer discounts (financial, travel & wellbeing) Industry-leading leadership and development programs (including THRIVE and EmpowHER) The scale, stability and opportunity of a Tier 1 ASX listed organisation with diverse project exposure What we are looking for CPA or CA qualified , with 10 years experience in financial/project accounting within complex environments Strong experience in long-term contract accounting and project-based environments Proven leadership capability with experience developing and leading high-performing teams Commercially astute with the ability to influence and partner with senior stakeholders Strong analytical, problem-solving and financial modelling capability Advanced systems experience (ERP such as SAP/JDE, Power BI and advanced Excel) Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial insights clearly and confidently About Energy & Utilities Downer's Energy & Utilities business unit is an integrated trans-Tasman team, providing services and solutions that connect communities to essential networks and infrastructure.
