What you’ll do This is a greenfield .NET and AI build. You'll join our Accounting Backend team to design and ship a new platform from the ground up for CORTO’s next-generation billing and accounting products. Working closely with the Head of Backend Engineering, you'll make the early calls that shape the whole system: domain design, database modelling, fast-at-scale queries, and how we embed LLMs deep into the backend to generate, transform and enrich information in ways that genuinely hold up in production. A rare chance to own the foundations of a core product, with real technical autonomy. To make this happen you will Design and build scalable, high-performance backend systems in C#/.NET that underpin our billing and accounting products Make foundational architectural decisions on a greenfield build Design and own core services, APIs and the underlying data model - including database schema design and writing efficient queries that stay fast as we scaleBuild on AWS, using services like S3, SNS, SQS, Lambda and DynamoDB Integrate LLMs deep into the backend to automate information generation, transformation and enrichment - not as a bolt-on, but as a core part of the product Design and ship AI-driven features, including prompt engineering with OpenAI in production systems Drive code quality through thoughtful testing, code review, observability and secure-by-default practices Mentor engineers across the team and raise the bar on how we build Partner with product, design and other engineering teams to turn complex problems into shippable solutions What you’ll bring 5 years building production systems with ASP.NET Web API (C#/.NET) Deep experience with distributed systems, RESTful APIs and relational databases (4 years) Ability to integrate LLMs into backend systems to enable automated information generation, transformation, and enrichment. Strong grasp of SOLID principles and clean architecture Hands-on experience with AWS (or equivalent cloud) in production Track record of performance tuning and designing for scale Experience mentoring engineers and lifting team technical standards Pragmatic - you know when to ship fast and when to slow down and get it right You are the type of person who Takes ownership end-to-end - you don’t stop at the API boundary Cares as much about reliability and observability as you do about shipping new features Enjoys teaching and is generous with your technical knowledge Asks why before you ask how Is curious about AI and how it can reshape the software we build CORTO is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential.
