AO8 Procurement Manager 6 mth contract with extension available Hybrid working environment Manager, Procurement (Category Strategy) We are seeking an experienced and strategic Manager, Procurement (Category Strategy) to lead high‑value procurement category management and deliver strong commercial outcomes in a complex operating environment. In this senior role, you will lead a high‑performing team of procurement, contract management and commercial professionals across a defined procurement category (such as General Goods and Services, ICT, or Social Services). You will drive the transition to a mature, commercially focused category management approach, delivering value for money, strong governance and sustainable outcomes. You will play a key role in shaping procurement strategy, leading complex sourcing activities, supporting major capital and operational expenditure, and embedding best‑practice procurement, probity and risk management practices. The role also requires strong leadership capability, stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to influence organisational behaviour through education and collaboration. Key Responsibilities Lead, coach and manage a team of procurement and commercial professionals Develop and implement category management strategies and plans Deliver value and performance outcomes across major procurement activities Lead complex and sensitive sourcing processes, negotiations and contract management activities Provide expert procurement and commercial advice to senior leaders and stakeholders Drive governance, accountability, transparency and risk mitigation across procurement activities Build strong internal and external stakeholder relationships, including suppliers, industry and peer organisations Prepare high‑level briefs, reports and submissions on complex procurement matters Promote continuous improvement and innovation in procurement practices About You You are a confident, strategic leader who: Thinks systemically and leads through complexity and change Leads and develops diverse, high‑performing teams Influences senior stakeholders with credibility and sound judgement Balances risk with value for money outcomes Demonstrates strong governance, accountability and professionalism Fosters inclusive, safe and supportive workplaces Drives innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement Qualifications & Experience While formal qualifications are not mandatory, qualifications in procurement, business, commerce or law (such as CIPS or equivalent) combined with significant senior procurement or commercial experience are highly regarded.
