About the role: Our client is a large Commonwealth department central to the Australian Government’s economic agenda, delivering programs across industry, science and resources. The CIO Division is seeking experienced Solution Architects to support a portfolio of ICT projects including artificial intelligence and emerging technology. The department primarily uses Microsoft Azure, M365, Dynamics 365 and DevOps platforms. Responsibilities: You will design and document cloud solutions for Azure-based applications, producing high-level and detailed design documents and reusable architecture patterns. You will work across enterprise architecture, cyber security and cloud operations teams to secure design approval and ensure solutions align with ISM and Essential 8 controls. This is a senior architectural role at EL1 equivalent, not a build-only position. Develop high-level and detailed design solutions for Azure-based applications and reusable architecture patterns Design Azure DevOps pipelines and virtual network configurations including hybrid network architecture and cloud native web ingress patterns Apply ISM, OWASP and Essential 8 security controls to solution designs Liaise with enterprise architects, cyber security teams, developers and business stakeholders to secure design approval Convert business requirements into detailed design solutions with clear language, diagrams and accurate technical detail Essential criteria – please do not apply unless you meet all of the following: Demonstrated experience translating business requirements into Azure cloud solution designs (HLD and DLD) and reusable architecture patterns Experience implementing and administering Azure cloud services, with Infrastructure as Code and Azure DevOps experience highly regarded Ability to build productive relationships with enterprise architecture groups, cyber security teams and cloud operations to secure design approval Demonstrated experience applying information security concepts and best practices including the Information Security Manual (ISM) You must hold a current Baseline security clearance at commencement – this is non-negotiable as the role requires immediate access to PROTECTED information and systems Desirable: Experience with Azure AI, ML and Cognitive Services, Data Solutions, DevOps, CI/CD, integration solutions and API/Services Oriented Architecture Ability to work with limited guidance in an agile environment This is a well-established ICT division within a large department that values architectural rigour and practical delivery. The team works across Azure, M365, Dynamics 365 and DevOps platforms with genuine executive support for emerging technology adoption. Multiple architecture resources are engaged across the division, so you will be part of a broader solutions architecture practice.
