About the role: Our client is a large Commonwealth department central to the Australian Government’s economic agenda. They are seeking experienced Front-End Developers / UI Designers with a dual skillset to support major digital projects, driving a human-centric approach to service delivery across the department’s digital platforms. Responsibilities: You will work across both front-end development and UI design, delivering intuitive interfaces through rapid prototyping, testing and implementation. Working in multidisciplinary agile teams, you will define user-centric designs, implement responsive UI components using HTML/CSS and React or Angular, and translate usability testing findings into actionable improvements. This is a hands-on hybrid role spanning design and code. Design user interfaces, user flows, wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes within existing style guides and design systems Implement responsive UI components using HTML/CSS, ReactJS and/or Angular Translate usability testing findings into actionable UI improvements Plan and perform UX evaluation to confirm usability and WCAG accessibility compliance Coach back-end engineers on usability and front-end development best practice Essential criteria – please do not apply unless you meet all of the following: Demonstrated experience designing user interfaces within an existing style guide and/or design system using HTML, CSS and JavaScript frameworks such as ReactJS and/or Angular Effective communication skills with the ability to influence multiple stakeholders and clearly articulate design decisions with a well-conceived rationale Demonstrated experience translating findings from usability testing into actionable improvements to a user interface Knowledge and implementation of WCAG 2.1 level AA accessibility requirements as a minimum Australian citizen who holds a current Baseline security clearance at commencement – this is non-negotiable as the role requires immediate access to PROTECTED information and systems Desirable: Experience with prototyping tools such as Figma, Adobe XD or Axure Demonstrated experience designing wireframes, user interfaces and interactive prototypes with high attention to detail and ability to rapidly prototype, test and iterate Tertiary qualifications in a design or ICT-related discipline (Human Factors, Graphic Design, Systems Design, Psychology, Computer Interaction, Web Development or similar) This is a design-led digital team within a large department that values human-centric service delivery. Teams operate in multidisciplinary agile environments where designers and developers collaborate closely. You will be part of a broader UX and front-end community working on nationally significant digital services.
