The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum and Gallery [Museum] is looking for an energetic, multi-disciplinary Curator with strong communication skills to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with museum and gallery sector experience who is excited to shape exhibition programs within a vibrant regional museum. Relevant tertiary qualification, preferably at post graduate level Demonstrated current experience [min 3 years’ experience] in a public arts or cultural institution, including contemporary cultural collection practices [curatorial, knowledge of conservation, cataloguing, accessioning/deaccessioning, significance assessments]. Demonstrated experience initiating, developing, and executing museum/gallery projects, including exhibitions, imaginatively interpreted and for diverse audiences. Evidence of high-level research skills and analysis Excellent written and oral communication skills, The Museum opened in 1988 is one of the largest regional not-for-profit museums in NSW, with 1,000 square meters of permanent and temporary exhibition space. Recent revitalisation projects have enhanced the visitor experience and upgraded environmental systems, enabling us to host significant loans from major institutions including the Australian National Maritime Museum, Powerhouse, the National Museum of Australia.The Curator will work closely with the Director to develop an annual exhibitions program to attract and engage visitors in our collections and other exhibition projects. As both a museum and gallery, this is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse range of subject matter from First Nations, maritime, science, technology, design and art using contemporary communication and display strategies. As a proportion of the position, 60% of the activity will be developing the exhibitions program including travelling exhibitions from other museums and galleries, and 40% Collections Management.
