About the Role An opportunity is available for a qualified and experienced Metal Fabricator / Welder to join our Melbourne-based team. This role is suited to a motivated individual who demonstrates strong technical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. You will be involved in all stages of the fabrication process, from interpreting technical drawings through to final assembly and finishing, ensuring all work meets required specifications and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Technical & Fabrication Duties Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine fabrication requirements Plan and sequence tasks to ensure efficient workflow and timely project completion Select appropriate materials and prepare metal stock for fabrication processes Mark out, cut, and shape metal components using hand tools, power tools, flame cutting equipment, and machinery Perform bending, forming, and shaping of metal sections and pipes using manual and automated techniques Assemble and align components using precision measuring instruments and alignment tools Welding & Assembly Carry out welding using a range of techniques (e.g. MIG, TIG, ARC) in accordance with project requirements Join metal sections through welding, bolting, and riveting methods Ensure structural integrity and dimensional accuracy of assembled components Quality Assurance & Finishing Inspect welds and fabricated components for compliance with specifications, including bead size, penetration, and finish Identify and rectify defects or inconsistencies in fabrication work Conduct finishing processes such as grinding, polishing, filing, and surface treatment Prepare completed products for installation or delivery Workplace Safety & Compliance Adhere strictly to workplace health and safety policies and procedures Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free work environment Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and operate machinery safely Contribute to a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement Skills and Experience Proven experience in metal fabrication and welding within a workshop or industrial environment Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications High level of accuracy and attention to detail Sound knowledge of fabrication tools, equipment, and welding techniques Ability to troubleshoot fabrication issues and implement practical solutions Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines Effective communication skills and a professional work ethic Qualifications AQF Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade) AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3) Application Process Applicants are invited to submit a current resume outlining their qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.
