The Opportunity Join the Future Fund’s Alternatives team and help strengthen total portfolio resilience through strategies designed to deliver attractive absolute returns independent of broad market directionality - driven by active manager skill (alpha) and non-core risk premia. In this role, you’ll sit close to real investment decisions: monitoring external hedge fund managers, building and refining monitoring tools, and undertaking deep, curious research on the investing process and broader hedge fund landscape. You’ll translate insights into clear, practical recommendations for the team and collaborate across the Agency in a “one team, one portfolio” environment. We’re open to appointing at Associate or Senior Associate level—depending on your experience, capability and the value you can bring to the team Key Responsibilities Use your domain knowledge and quantitative skills to develop and refine monitoring tools that track manager positioning, themes and performance Contribute strategic insights to support the continued optimisation of the Alternatives portfolio Work with senior team members on investment process and recommendations Monitor trends and new initiatives across the hedge fund industry; research new sectors and apply relevant learnings to the portfolio Support ad hoc projects linked to portfolio needs and market developments Communicate domain-specific research clearly to the Executive Director, Alternatives and the broader team Help manage relationships with investment managers, peers, research/service providers and other industry participants Use external networks to inform strategic views for the total portfolio and share insights with the team Collaborate across internal teams to support portfolio construction and a positive, high-performing culture About You A demonstrated interest in investing, with experience in asset management, institutional investing and/or investment consulting Understanding of hedge fund strategies and how they contribute to diversified institutional portfolios Comfortable working with complexity—able to stay effective in a busy, evolving environment Strong capability to research and analyse broad macroeconomic matters as they apply to institutional portfolios Highly numerate, with the ability to think quantitatively and qualitatively Meticulous attention to detail, while keeping the “big picture” in view Able to explain complex concepts simply—verbally and in writing—and tailor your message to different stakeholders Comfortable engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders A team-first mindset: builds strong relationships across teams and contributes positively to culture Relevant university degree (postgraduate qualifications preferred) CFA and/or postgraduate study is advantageous but not essential Please note that the opportunity is open to Australian citizens only We Are For Everyone At Future Fund, we are better for our differences.
