Senior Media Advisor Government Department Classification: ASO6 ($98,535 – $104,411 12% Superannuation) Status: Full-Time | 3-Month Short-Term Contract Location: Adelaide CBD (Hybrid) The Opportunity Are you a seasoned media professional available for an immediate or near-term start? We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Media Advisor for a focused 3-month contract to lead and coordinate media services for a high-profile Government Department. This is a fast-paced "surge" role where you will act as a critical link between the Department and the public. Reporting to the Manager, Media, you will be responsible for navigating complex political landscapes, managing reactive media enquiries, and ensuring proactive storytelling remains a priority during this contract period. Main Duties Coordinating and preparing responses to requests for information, briefs and communications; Providing expert media and communication advice and support to staff at all levels across the Department; Writing and editing media releases, print publications, website and social media content; Developing and maintaining strong relationships with a range of key media contacts; Producing and delivering high-quality, user-focused content using text, video and imagery; Developing communications plans to support specific business and environmental outcomes; Supporting regional staff in the field of media and communications. About You As this is a 3-month engagement, we require a professional who can jump into a fast paced environment: Immediate Strategic Impact: Demonstrated experience providing high-level media advice to senior stakeholders and managing associated risks. Exceptional Writing & Editing: The ability to produce "camera-ready" media releases and digital content under tight deadlines. Government Fluency: An in-depth understanding of organisational governance, protocols, and delegations within a public sector framework. Political Savvy: The ability to evaluate the impact and consequences of communication strategies while considering stakeholder concerns. Technical Proficiency: A strong grasp of digital communications and an understanding of IAP2 principles for community engagement. Essential Requirements Proven experience in media relations, journalism, or strategic communications. Ability to work flexibly and respond to urgent media issues or state emergencies if required. Tertiary Qualifications: A degree in Journalism, Public Relations, or Communications is highly desirable. A current Class “C” driver’s licence.
