The Opportunity - Communications & Stakeholder Engagement Director Reporting to the Project Director for the Design and Construct Contractor, this role is the strategic lead for project delivery communications. You will drive a proactive communications and engagement function that champions the project's construction milestones and technical achievements. You will lead a high-performing team to translate complex engineering progress into meaningful public and stakeholder value, ensuring the project maintains the public trust required for successful delivery. Leadership & Team Management As the Communications and Public Affairs discipline lead, you will provide expert guidance and mentorship to a high-performing team to ensure a unified, and collaborative approach across all project communications. Cultivate and manage high-level relationships with government stakeholders, internal teams and parent company representatives, navigating competing priorities. Stakeholder & Community Engagement Develop and execute a comprehensive stakeholder strategy aligned with project objectives that ensures feedback is incorporated into project decision-making. Oversee the development of community initiatives, public consultations, and feedback mechanisms to keep residents and businesses informed while minimising project disruptions. Ensure the project adheres to best practices in public participation and complies with all stakeholder consultation requirements and engagement policies. Communications & Event Management Oversee the production of high-quality stakeholder materials, newsletters, and digital content to maintain positive public engagement. Oversee the planning and execution of milestone events, including site tours, open days, ministerial visits, and major project openings. Strategic Communications & Reputational Risk Develop and oversee communication strategies that enhance the project's reputation, ensuring all public statements align with project objectives and government regulations. Provide strategic counsel to the consortium, parent companies, and government partners to identify emerging political and reputational threats and develop mitigation strategies. Lead the project's response to high-pressure issues, media scrutiny, and sensitive environments. You will act as the primary strategist for issues management, ensuring a unified and resilient voice across all partner organisations. Criteria 15 years of experience in Public Affairs, Journalism, or Corporate Communications, with a proven track record of navigating complex regulatory climates, balancing competing interests in a high-scrutiny environment. Demonstrated ability to lead high-pressure issues management and provide strategic risk advisory to senior executives, and global parent companies. A proven track record of building, mentoring, and inspiring high-performing teams. Extensive experience leading community engagement and strategic communications for major infrastructure projects. A collaborative approach to building relationships across diverse stakeholder groups, including government clients, parent companies, private partners, and community groups. Proven expertise in the development and implementation of comprehensive Community Communication Strategies and large-scale engagement programs. Demonstrable experienced in and an understanding of NSW government and Australian government public affairs processes. Exceptional skills in rapid-response media management and the preparation of urgent copy for diverse audiences. A problem solver who can balance competing commercial, political, and social interests to maintain project stability with exceptional communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. A strategic thinker with a proven track record in media and communications, ideally within government, public sector, or a similarly complex environment. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in public relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., IAP2 or Engagement Institute) are preferred. Why Join Us?
