About the Role Avant is establishing an integrated, business-led data governance function that bridges the gap between business and IT, modernises processes and supports the organisation in achieving its strategic objectives. Reporting to the Group Data Governance Manager, this role will partner with Data Owners and Data Stewards to drive understanding of and alignment with the Data Governance Framework, internal policies and regulatory obligations (including CPG235, the Privacy Act, and CPS230). You will play a key role in embedding the organisation’s Data Governance Framework and standards across business functions, leveraging platforms such as Databricks and Microsoft Purview. Working closely with data engineers and analysts, you will help shape how data products are built, maintained and governed. This is a hands-on, systems-focused role, ideal for someone with strong SQL, ETL and data pipeline expertise who is passionate about improving data quality, trust and value across the organisation. Key Accountabilities: Support the development, implementation, and embedment of the Data Governance Framework, including policies, standards, processes, and metrics Promote consistent data governance and management practices across Avant by maintaining the Business Glossary, Data Catalogue, and Data Dictionary Coordinate and lead data quality remediation initiatives, partnering with business stakeholders to identify, manage, and resolve data issues Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure governance principles are embedded into data products and pipelines Contribute to the ongoing improvement of data governance practices, tools, and capabilities Key skills and experience required Knowledge of Microsoft Purview isESSENTIAL 3 years’ experience across data governance, data management or data analytics space, including implementing relevant frameworks, policies and standards Experience in a regulated environment, financial services or insurance Knowledge of data governance frameworks and methodologies, including data classification, sensitive labelling, data quality, metadata management Sound understanding of data management best practices and industry standards Experience working with customer data Proficient in SQL, with experience in data warehousing, ETL pipelines, and BI/reporting integration Proven experience managing or supporting enterprise data tools (e.g. Informatica, Collibra, Alex Solutions) Experience with metadata management, data modelling and data lineage tracking Confident managing data issues from profiling through to root cause resolution About Avant For over 130 years, Avant has stood by Australian medical professionals.
