Our client a local council is seeking a Senior Statutory Planning Officer for an immediate start. The expected duration of this placement is 6 months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency for the right candidate. The majority of the work will be Statutory planning, with this position being the initial contact point for external enquiries to the Planning and Development team, on statutory land use planning matters. Successful candidates must have: Tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent. Comprehensive knowledge of town planning principles and Western Australian statutory planning legislation, procedures, policies and practices with an ability to interpret plans. Highly developed interpersonal, communication, networking and relationship building skills with an ability to provide a high level of customer-centric service. Proven ability to work constructively with others in a team environment and to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders. Highly developed analytical ability and skills in creative thinking, independent research, negotiation and problem-solving. Highly developed project management, planning and organisational skills, including the ability to work under pressure, prioritise work and meet challenging timeframes. Well-developed computer literacy skills. Possession of a driver's licence. Previous experience in Planning in Local Government or similar role desirable. WA based planning experience is highly desirable Duties will include: Undertake and co-ordinate evaluation and report preparation for major development applications and coordinate the assessment and delegated approvalof minor development applications. Undertake and co-ordinate the evaluation of applications for subdivisions, ensuring compliance with conditions of Subdivision Approval. Participate in SAT and JDAP proceedings. Liaise with landowners, developers and other City teams in relation to developmentapplications; subdivision applications and clearances and all other statutory planning matters. Participate in the duty planner roster, ensuring a high level of customer service is provided to community members, landowners, external stakeholders and applicants. Assist in the review and preparation of local planning policies and scheme amendments at the direction of the Manager Planning and Development involving specific areas of work focus. Participate in preparation of Business Plans, review of quality procedures and Implement customer service process and criteria for the Planning area.
