About this role Grant Thornton is seeking an experienced Self‑Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF) Accountant to join our national specialist team. The role can be based in any state in Australia. This high-achieving national team is constantly evolving alongside our clients and offers a warm, vibrant work environment. Please note this role can be based from any of our nationwide offices (Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth, or Sydney) with hybrid and flexible working arrangements available. Key responsibilities You’ll maintain strong working relationships both with our clients and with your colleagues across the wider Private Enterprise (PVE) team, providing consultative advice and support to internal and external stakeholders on a range of SMSF matters, including: Preparation and administration of SMSF Financial Statements, Annual Returns, and Member Statements including Trustee Minutes and Section 290-170 Notices Preparation and administration of SMSF BAS, IAS and PAYG requirements Liaise with external auditors and other bodies such as the ATO and ASIC Provide advice to colleagues and escalate any SIS compliance issues to assigned Manager / Director / Partner Assist the licensed advisers with the preparation of Statements of Advice (SOAs) Support the provision of training and mentorship opportunities to less experienced team members as required Skills and experience With experience providing compliance and advisory services to SMSF clients, you are a service-oriented individual with a continuous improvement mindset: someone who takes pride in your work and centres the client in everything you do, always looking to develop and refine your technical expertise. Required Professional accounting experience working with clients in the Australian SMSF sector High-level written and verbal communication, including report-writing and presentation skills Solid analytical and critical reasoning skills, including interpreting and reporting financial data An interest in working on a national level, liaising with interstate teams and clients as well as locally Intermediate to advanced IT literacy, ideally including experience in the use of Class Super Desirable Qualification(s) and / or professional accreditation(s) in a relevant discipline such as Business / Commerce, Accounting or Finance, or other relevant professional or overseas qualification(s) If you’re interested in this role but don’t feel that you match every single one of our requirements, we would still love to hear from you and explore the unique skillset and attributes that you can bring to the team.
