About the role The purpose of the role is to steward, retain, and acquire financial support and engagement of major donors, in accordance with the Philanthropy Annual Plan. With the objective of engaging donors, deepening relationships, and shepherding these supporters towards higher levels of giving, this role involves managing key major donor relationships, prospecting for key funding focuses and major donor cultivation and moves management. Working closely with the Philanthropy Manager, this position plays an integral role in achieving and exceeding targets, ensuring the organisation has the funding it needs to continue preventing cruelty to animals and be financially sustainable, in accordance with the RSPCA NSW Strategic Plan. The Major Philanthropy Officer will: • Engage new major donors and upgrade gifts from existing major donors, through targeted solicitation, • Develop and maintain relationships with major donors. • Coordinate engagement activity and solicitation of major donor relationships. • Craft and execute bespoke communications such as solicitation material, impact reports. • Record, monitor and report on donor moves management, stages of solicitation process and donor engagement activity in our CRM. • Be the primary contact for major donors through all their enquiries relating to RSPCA NSW. About you • Minimum three years’ experience in not-for-profit. • Strategic Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to cultivate, steward and grow relationships with high-value donors, philanthropists, and stakeholders over time. • High-Level Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to senior stakeholders and donors. • Emotional Intelligence & Empathy: Ability to understand and connect with donors’ motivations and values, and build authentic, trust-based relationships. • Fundraising Expertise: Deep knowledge of fundraising principles and practices, particularly in major gifts. • Persuasive Proposal Writing: Strong skills in writing tailored donor proposals, impact reports, and briefing notes that inspire giving and demonstrate outcomes. • Financial Acumen: Ability to understand budgets, financial reporting, and to align donor interests with funding priorities and secure gifts. • CRM and Data Management Proficiency: Experience managing donor pipelines through CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce, Raiser's Edge, etc.) with a disciplined and organised approach. • Initiative and Drive: Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and driving them to completion. • Collaborative Mindset: Works well across teams (e.g. programs, communications, finance) and builds positive internal relationships to support fundraising outcomes. • Discretion and Integrity: Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, discretion, and ethical standards in handling sensitive donor information.
