Your Opportunity The Aherlkeme Development Centre (ADC) in Alice Springs provides vital transitional accommodation and wraparound support services for Territorians who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Our service is designed to assist individuals and families who face significant challenges in securing and maintaining tenancies. ADC delivers culturally safe, person-centred support through tailored case management and life skills development programs, enabling residents to build the capacity and confidence needed to successfully transition into stable public or private housing. This is an on-site position and as a Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting participants’ daily needs, maintaining a safe and clean-living environment, and contributing to the overall positive outcomes of each resident's housing journey. This is a 24-hour service and requires flexibility to work a rotating roster including evenings, overnight, and weekends. Your Key Responsibilities: Provide direct participant support during rostered shifts, including overnight engagement, monitoring resident wellbeing, responding to enquiries, and escalating matters to on-call or case management staff as required. Support new and existing residents through basic intake, induction and orientation processes, including completion of forms, explanation of service expectations, and assistance with administrative requirements. Assist in the delivery of person-centred and culturally responsive case plans in collaboration with case managers, reinforcing positive routines, boundaries and tenancy-related goals. Complete accurate and timely administrative tasks, including shift handover notes, visitor request forms, incident logs, referrals, and maintenance of records using client databases and Microsoft Office systems. Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment through routine cleaning duties, rubbish removal, and basic property upkeep across communal and external areas. Contribute to residents’ life skills development by informally supporting independence, problem-solving, and participation in basic group activities that promote tenancy readiness. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, attending briefings and training, engaging respectfully with internal and external stakeholders, and contributing to continuous service improvement. Requirements for Success A Certificate II, III or IV in Community Services or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience supporting people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, mental health or alcohol and other drug challenges. A minimum of six months’ experience in support work, housing, community services or supported accommodation setting, with the ability to work autonomously during overnight shifts. Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with a strong commitment to cultural safety, respect and trauma‑informed practice. Well-developed communication skills and adaptability to engage with individuals presenting with complex needs, including mental health challenges, family and domestic violence, and vicarious trauma. Strong administrative capability, including confidence in using computers, completing documentation accurately, maintaining logs and writing clear, professional case notes. Emotional resilience, integrity and patience, with the ability to respond calmly to challenging behaviours, manage urgent overnight requests, and work under minimal supervision with access to on-call support. Flexibility to work a rotating 24-hour roster, including overnight, weekend and public holiday shifts, with local knowledge of Alice Springs or the Northern Territory highly regarded. First Aid & CPR certificate desired but not mandatory. Full driver licence with no restrictions. Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
